Rugamba & Fant

I'm going with some positivity here.

I think both of these guys are going to be really good players for us. I know Fant had the drop but he definitely looks the part, he could be a beast down the road. Rugamba should start cutting into Mabin's PT IMO.

You might be onto something. Heck - he even has more INTs than the King.

The thing about Mabin is he could actually be pretty good, he's long and he's usually in good position, kid just hasn't learned to turn and look for the ball.

Side note: I really wish King caught that pick 6 today for the old highlight tape.

With development, Fant could be a weapon.

A number of young guys got action today. Too many drops but people were open, good sign.

The Oline was better, against a decent defense.

The run defense was solid as well.

Today was the first time I saw him in person (no moped though). He definitely looks the part and can run. I wish they would have targeted him downfield more than they one time. The throw was there. He just didn't haul it in.

Would love to see more of the young ones play. What do we have to lose? It might even help with recruiting.

Mabin seems like he's just "turning his head around to see the ball arrive" away from being excellent. He seems to always be "right there" but doesn't turn his head around. He did, yesterday, in the end zone and that completed excellent coverage from him. But that was a-typical for this season. Typical is a catch or P.I. Mabin is good and still deserves his minutes. Rugamba....he's nipping at his heels, though.

Like I have stated for the last 5 weeks, Mabin sucks. Lost in coverage, he had a td against him last week in the endzone where he was playing behind the receiver. Would you not want to be in a position to prevent the catch? He was behind the receiver by 3 yards. Rugamaba is far superior as a freshman.

Fant seems to be a Moeacki type player with TE size and good speed. We have had lots a great tight ends. Fant will add 20 lbs and hopefully be a big target and part of the passing game next year while learning this year.

Kinda lame to degrade players. The coaches are fair game.

Mabin has been ok given he is getting tested by every teams best WR. Not awesome, but ok.

I will agree Rugy (that's what I'm calling him) looks to have promise.

It is not degrading to point out that someone else being out there might catch balls that he dropped, and he dropped at least three easy catches, as I recall. It might have been more.

What the previous poster mentioned and what I am saying are not degrading to the player. They are opinions that are based upon what actually happened on the field. And it was hardly over the top commentary.

I wasn't talking about the commentary on McCarron. The poster above said our starting DB sucks. It's not only inaccurate, it's lame to post it here. Mabin has been just fine, not great, but just fine. He is getting the toughest assignment on every single pass play, Iowa's pass defense has been decent overall this year.

McCarron had a rough game with the 2 drops and fumble, but he is getting open. Just need to work on the drops. I am completely good with getting other players in the mix.

Well, Ronald Nash was out there and he dropped a pretty big first down catch when we were backed up. Smith didn't make a very good play on the ball on CJ's pick, and yes McCarron had some bad moments, but he did show some quickness. I'd like to see more of Scheel, but overall we just don't have many options at WR.
