Rudock

listen, Rudduck may be a great qb, someday. I dont think it is wise now to thow him to the wolves. that would probably do more harm than good all around, BUT, you need to have a way to light an inside "fire" in JVB. he needs to feel the threat of being set down. The players around him have to see that desire in him and to believe in him. He can not line up behind center with his eyes locked on his potential target and expect a DE or LB, not to notice.

That being said, the play calling for certain situations is always predictable, and the qb MUST have the confidence, knowledge and guts to call an audible. But touching on the play calling is a whole separate issue. AND, those mentioned internal fires have to be ignited with help from the coaches!

It certainly helps to show how really lucky we were to have qb play like Stanzis in the past, especially on the road.

There someone goes, proclaiming someone who hasn't played a snap of CFB as the savior.

Here's an idea? We had a QB that our own coach said did too good of a job running the scout team preparing us for Northwestern.

Our response: Move him to LB.

1. He was running NORTHWESTERN'S basic offensive scheme, not our own.
2. He displayed a remarkable amount of stupidity by punching out a bus window and getting arrested. Does that scream leadership material to you? He can be a much better linebacker than a QB, IMO. He's played no more meaningful snaps than Rudock, so I don't see how your suggesting Derby is some kind of star, but it's too early to do the same for Rudock, makes any sense.

The difference between the teams stanzi played for and the team JVB is leading is that JVB doesn't have a top 5 defense to get him the ball back on 3 and outs and bail him out when he makes mistakes time and time again. In 2009, Stanzi tried to lose games...go down the list...Arizona...pick six, Arkansas State...pix six, but the defense saved him time and time again. Where has the defense saved any thing this year?

JVB, up until the last 3 games was our offense. Stanzi played 2008 with Shonn Greene...enough said. If he doesn't have the best back in the country and he was responsible for carrying the team, how do you think he would have done? Stanzi was terrible the last four games of the year...and they were all games we should have won. The defense just didn't bail him out...he didn't lead anything.

OMG-- The QB is not the biggest problem. Coaches need to do a better job getting people ready, play calling, and situational awareness. There is a lack of talent in some spots and there are a number of guys hurt. Vandy has done a decent job and, hopefully, will continue to get better. We are better with Vandy at QB than without (given our options).

It's ridiculous to burn Rudocks redshirt now.

As for Vandenburg, I've just about given up hope that he'll ever be an elite quarterback. The only hope I have is that Stanzi noticably improved from his junior and senior year.

This thread needs to die of stupidity...tm and some others...give it up...stupidity will continue to argue with you guys til the cows come home.

Good. I'm in the mood for a good steak right now, and I don't feel like going out to the field to shoot a cow :D

did they redshirt him? from what i hear he is a great QB with a great arm is he good i mean like on a scale of 1-10 from what you have seen can you rate him so i have a good idea of what to expect!

something major has to change. if you can't see that you dont know football either. qb play has not been the best.

Something has to change at the QB position? Vandenberg can make throws that most QB at Iowa couldn't dream of making. The lack of awareness in this thread is amazing, it's like people expect 0 mistakes and a 100% completion rate.

All of you people I was referring to as having a lack of awareness, please read this post. This is an example of somebody who actually knows what they are talking about.

Vandenburg has the skills. He may not be getting all the coaching he needs right now, but he isn't the problem. In fact he is, in his first year of starting at the top of the B10 leader boards for QB's. Burning Rudock's redshirt would create more problems than it would solve.

NO, I do not believe that something needs to be changed at qb. I believe JVB is our best qb at this time for this year, maybe more. I believe our coaching preparedness needs to improve (change) in order to light a fire of emotion and leadership.

totally agree with the defense making it easier to make qb play better. in fact all positions work this way. without a doubt, Stanzi was a better qb because of SG and other rbs, wrs, line play and defense. JVB has the talent, he needs the mental part that coaching and experience needs to teach and bring.

Anybody who thinks JVB is part of the reason we lost against MN doesn't understand football.

Totally agree, vandy has very good numbers, it's not on him. We were getting almost ten yards a pop running on them, we should have ran the ball 5 out of 6 plays on them. There was no way they could have stopped us...

Iowa has the talent. It was badly utilized. Vandenburg, Coker, and McNutt are all better than their opposites on the other side.
When your team puts up over 200 in the air, nearly 300 on the ground and has a reciever over 100 yards you should win. Especially against a team that has given up triple digits over the last few games.

The offense isn't the problem. Until the defense gets a makeover or the pedal gets pressed to the floor on offense, we will continue to struggle.

Stanzi was awful his senior year...in the fourth quarter he looked like a deer in the headlights...he got too afraid of throwing the pick. QB's have to have somewhat of a gunslinger mentality. He ended with like 5 of the worst games of his career....He's not the gold standard.

Correct, yesterday it was on the OC, IMO. We keep running the ball we win. very simple in my eyes for yesterdays loss. keep running = win.dont need to analyse it any further than that.

Alright since many of the threads are what you may consider "crazy" or "out there"....what does everyone think about getting Rudock out there? Vandy obviously is not going to cut it on the road....and if you want to have any hope at being decent you have to win on the road....Vandy is a solid QB but not getting it done on the road.

Now we all know this will never happen too....thoughts though?

I think this disporves the theory of high post count=high intelligence
