Rudock

Alright since many of the threads are what you may consider "crazy" or "out there"....what does everyone think about getting Rudock out there? Vandy obviously is not going to cut it on the road....and if you want to have any hope at being decent you have to win on the road....Vandy is a solid QB but not getting it done on the road.

Now we all know this will never happen too....thoughts though?

Thought - It's time to go to bed.

I think this falls right into the "crazy" or "out there" category. We have 4 games left in the regular season. It'd be stupid to burn his redshirt at this point. Vandy is fine, I've still got faith that he can be a good one. He's got the tools, he just needs to put it together.

Anybody who thinks JVB is part of the reason we lost against MN doesn't understand football.
lol. yeah no part at all. not learning to be cautious about corner blitzes after two teams prior have used them with great success is no fault to him. everyone has part to blame for lost, just maybe not to the point of losing his starting position. vandy has done good things, but sometimes he looks like a true freshman out there. not near as mentally tough as stanzi imo.

As I said in another post:

"In regards to comparing Vandenberg to Stanzi, while many may not want to put that kind of pressure on Vandenberg I think it's worth analyzing. And I'd like to take a psychological approach.

It's a well known HawkeyeNation fact that Stanzi had a lot of poise in tough games; he was able to shake off mistakes and still play--for the most part--at a high level. We haven't seen that yet from Vandenberg. I have a theory that a slight change in sideline demeanor could change that.

While we know people express emotion through body language and facial expression, there are studies that show it can work the other way. That is, you can, in a sense, will your way into a different emotional state by changing your facial expression. People who are in a bad mood, can--if only temporarily--lift their spirits by forcing a smile on their face. Today I realized that I'm often seeing Vandenberg, on the sideline, with a furrowed brow, likely in confusion, frustration or concentration, or some combination of the three. I believe it's his highly competitive nature that he naturally does this. However, I can't remember any time when Stanzi had this same expression.

I think if someone told him to change his expression, that maybe, just maybe it could change his whole attitude toward the game, and he could perform much better on the road. Of course it may also make absolutely no difference. I just wish I had mentioned this to him when I saw him yesterday. "

And I'm not being crazy here, I think it could make a difference.

Vandy's nonverbals need a ton of work. Like I said against PSU, when things don't go well he sends very poor messages with his demeanor and expression.

But even if he learns to keep that in check on the sidelines, if he doesn't learn how to check that blitz it is all over.

That deer in the headlights play is akin the deer in the headlights expression.

Vandy is not "fine". He is, at best, a good Iowa-grown QB, nothing more.

I say give Wienke a shot. At least he is an out-of-stater. Steer clear of JVB and Derby at QB and we could possibly win one more game. With either at QB, 0-for-November is a certainty.

One good reason to take shirt off Rudock is to make him burn a year of eligibility before he transfers out of this nightmarish situation unfolding before his eyes.

I personally wouldn't be in favor of burning the Rudock red shirt to throw him in this season and think that JVB is the best option for now. With that said, everything should be open competition for next year. Sure would be nice to have those extra bowl practices.

we get it you know nothing about the QB spot... absolutely nothing how about you stop posting garbage we can tell you don't like JVB, god knows why as he has not been the problem....

you sure you are now a clone fan here? Wow the stupidy of these posts is getting out of hand.

Are you blind?! The guy was throwing "jakers" off the knees to guys who were nowhere near first-down yardage. If it happens once, "My bad". Twice? "Hey, kid, focus" Repeatedly? Well, you obviously haven't figured it out. Neither has he. He needs a LOT of work.

Comparing him to Stanzi is laughable. Stanzi kept us in each and every game. He won road games at places like Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State. He went undefeated in bowl games. This year's team likely won't BE in a bowl game.

JVB has potential. But even "potential" can't beat Minnesota, evidently.

Do I put it "all" on JVB. No. ST was terrible. Every guy, save the deep man/men, on the field for that onside kick need a week or two off, or should consider taking their "talents" to an FCS or D-2 school. And the coach/es responsible for ST need a screaming. Not from KF (who knows, maybe it IS KIF). From any junior high-level coach who is, apparently, just as qualified to coach as our ST folks. Because what we saw yesterday was pathetic.

But scoring 21 points on THIS year's version of Minnesota is sad. And if people are going to hold KF or KOK accountable, you also need to hold the on-field leader responsible. He can audible, he can get in the coaches ears about changing things up, whatever. He can make better throws. Or he can tell his O-line to simply do their jobs and let Marcus Coker do the rest. But none of that happened.

Why...so our poor coaching can put him in a position to underacheive just like Vandy.

I think it's a whole program thing...our players, save a few, are not talented enough to win in the BIG which also goes back to coaches.

Not talented enough to win against Minnesota?? Come on man there are High School teams in Texas that would roll Minnesota.

I say burn the red shirt and let him play a few snaps. After all - there are still plenty of 6 foot plus pocket-passing QBs in high school and since Iowa is about the only program that they can still play in, they will be lining up at the door.

Stanzi also lost to Minnesota, Northwestern, and an average Arizona team.

You're a f*cking idiot if you're seriously comparing Vandy to the Snake. Christensen completed 53.5% of his passes in 2007. That's a little beyond God-awful. Vandy is completing 58.4%, with just one poor passing game to his name. He's not perfect, but he's got all kinds of potential.

Stanzi wasn't all that great in 2008, either. He turned out just fine. I'm more than willing to cut Vandy some slack and see what he can do once he puts it together.

something major has to change. if you can't see that you dont know football either. qb play has not been the best.

Actually, I'd be willing to be it has been. We don't have anyone who could do as well as Vandy right now. There is ZERO good reason to yank him and throw Rudock to the wolves.

Not "comparing" to the The Snake. I'm saying that all those who rant on Stanzi and say JVB is so much better are blind.

I agree, he DOES seem to have potential. But he has yet to win a road game, and saying he was at the top of his game yesterday means either he doesn't have much game, or he is just too inconsistent.

In 2008, Stanzi fought for the starting job for the first third of the season. He certainly benefited from having SG, but Coker can hardly be called a "reason" for JVB not reaching his potential.

The 2010 Arizona loss? One off McNutt's hands, a blocked punt, an Arizona KOR. Hampton going down with ACL (for the season). Maybe even MORE blunders than yesterday's abysmal performance. And Stanzi STILL helped put us in a position to win that game.

Stop thinking JVB is the key to this offense. He simply is not. He needs to demonstrate that we are ALWAYS "in" the game, and instill/inspire confidence in his teammates. Nothing more is required of a QB in the Iowa "system" in the "typical" year.

I agree. But it's the "JVB is the savior" crap that irks me.

Remember, in 2007, Arvell Nelson was apparently given the "reins" for a game and dropped the ball practically before the week had begun. It apparently wasn't a matter of "talent".

But I don't think it's "talent", or even "leadership", that JVB lacks. He seems to have the tools. But he also doesn't seem to inspire that "team confidence" that Stanzi brought when he took over for Jake (remember the quotes from DJK and others about seeing it "in his eyes" in the huddle?). Even WITH Stanzi's growing pains, we could pinpoint where lack of execution was happening. This year? It's on both sides of the ball, and it is only really to be expected on the D side of the ball. We have the talent AND experience on the O side.
