Rudock officially the starter

It will be interesting to see if they will allow Beathard or Sokol any snaps this season. Seems to me that I could see a repeat of last season in terms of spreading snaps solely on the fact that Rudock needs all the live action he can get. But then again if he goes down (god forbid), that will leave the Beathard or Sokol in the middle of the season with no live action under their belts.

You would think it will happen, especially against MO State in week 2.

Yeah, that is what I am hoping, then again when Iowa was laying an egg against Michigan and PSU last season they could have given him a shot (not to beat a dead horse). But I think this year with the QB race being so close (according to media), you would think that Beathard will get to play some. Last season according to KF the QB separation between Vandy and Rudock wasn't close it would have made the team worse off in KF's opinion. However, I can see both sides of that argument. It will just be interesting to see how this season plays out.
 
My biggest want is to make sure that Rudock is more than adequately prepared after the first two games to walk into Jack Trice and command the offense. If he struggles the first couple of games and they go to a QB rotation we will get skinned alive in Ames.
 
Good for Jake. Now it's time for Hawkeye Nation to get behind him and show him support. There's going to be growing pains but he has a lot of potential. Let's hope this Jake makes us forget about the last one!

HFN, this is why I can see both sides to that argument because you don't want Rudock to miss snaps to give Beathard time with a tough rivalry road game coming up in Rudock's 3rd start.

DP, what are you talking about? Everyone here is 100% behind Rudock always has been. No one ever, anywhere, on any thread, wanted anyone but Rudock.
 
I'd almost guarantee we see some of Beathard in the early going, but I'm glad we finally have this settled for Week 1.

I'm simply saying no matter who each of us might have been pulling for Jake is the guy who has EARNED this opportunity. I'd hate to see any members of the fanbase, even if it's a small few, start criticizing him before he's even been given a chance to show what he's made of. We have a special fanbase and the team could use 100% of our support. It's time to put the BS aside, rally behind this young man, and hope for a reinvigorating 2013 football season!

I agree tm. We'll see Beathard at some point early on. I just hope it's because the Hawks are taking care of business, and not because the offense is struggling. We'll know very soon.

From everything I have read about him, it's doubtful he will struggle with command of the offense. Pretty smart guy. I know, I know, I know.......................so was JVB.

No way, they are moving DE's to DT's and not because of depth at DE but because of desperation to get bodies on the line. It will only be the 2nd game for them so they will still be doing some work on that line trying to figure things out as well.

Plus Iowa's D will be better this year and it isn't like Sam Richardson has started a lot of games. He has about 8 quarters of football under his belt, and will have 12 after the opener, so basically the same amount of experience Rudock will have when he walks into JTS. In fact Richardson will have seen the D's from Kansas, WV, Tulsa, and UNI, I will go out on a limb and say Iowa will have the best D he will have faced to this point.

Freed, I think most people could agree with that. However, I did remember that there were some rumblings of Beathard was pretty well liked among staff at the end of the season last year but not ahead of Sokol by any means.

Let's be honest. Richardson is a good qb. However, it won't matter. If ya get my drift.
