Rudock Appears to be in Good Spot w/ Lions

Rudock's only due reward is his undergrad degree. That's it, he's got that.

I'd imagine that if we revisit this statement in a decade, Tom Brokaw's contributions to society are much more valuable to the university than Jake's ever were.

At the very least don't compare "contributions to society" between two people when one has already retired and the other has still not left college... c'mon.

Would Rudock wear consider himself a Hawkeye or a Wolverine first and foremost? That to me is important.

Also, wasnt Stanzi getting a shot in Detroit as well?

A huge part of Rudocks opportunities came from his powerhouse Florida High School team, he got his foot into the door at Michigan because his High School coach had been hired as an assistant? Do I have that right? The guy also did pbp on a B1G Network game?

Probably the best place for him to try out. RG3 ain't nothing special and their backups are meh.

Kinda feel bad for Stanzi. I have no idea if he is NFL material or not, but you will never know if you can't get quality reps in practice or pre-season games. The current CBA just will not allow it. That's gotta be brutal on the girlfriend/wife moving from city to city, can't establish friendships, career, or anything because you are constantly moving.

Yep. Can be tough chasing your dream, I did the same after college in the music biz. At some point you say, OK, I gave it a shot. Maybe it's time to go in another direction. At least Rick will have some money in the bank when he makes the career shift.

Practice squad guys get minimum $6600 a week; if you spend a whole season there, not a bad year's pay. Of course those guys are pretty dispensable.

Wonder if he (Stanzi) ever considered the armed forces? I bet he'd have mad distance and accuracy with a hand grenade. If you don't love it, leave it! USA#1!

Lets just say there is a good chance of Stanzi becoming Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State not too long from now......

That's true but if he makes it as the 3rd string qb he's making over $600,000.00 a year. Stanzi's probably made over 3 mil so far. I wish I would have made that in my first 5-6 years out of college.

Wish someone would let him take a snap in a regular season NFL game some time. Even one snap so he can say he had his cup of coffee in the bigs.

600k seems high though. I don't think those guys get quite that much do they? What's the minimum pay? 300-400ish? Most teams don't even keep 3 qbs on active roster. They get stashed on practice squad. I think he played out most of if not all of his KC rookie deal didn't he? So he may have gotten close to that for 3 or 4 yrs there. Football is crazy where the difference between Sam Bradford and Stanzi is what? Talent wise not a whole lot I don't think but they sure are getting paid a whole lot different...

I just looked up the veterans minimum wage scale. I'm not sure how many years he actually has in as a roster player but this is what I found.
Each year the NFL minimum salaries increase by $15,000, up to $435k for a rookie in 2015. A player’s minimum salary is determined by his years of experience (YOE), ranging from 0 to 10 or more. The chart below shows the minimum (P5) salaries a team can contract a player to based on Years of Experience (credited seasons).

Yrs. 2015 2016 2017 2018
0 $435,000 $450,000 $465,000 $480,000
1 $510,000 $525,000 $540,000 $555,000
2 $585,000 $600,000 $615,000 $630,000
3 $660,000 $675,000 $690,000 $705,000
4-6 $745,000 $760,000 $775,000 $790,000
7-9 $870,000 $885,000 $900,000 $915,000
10+ $970,000 $985,000 $1,000,000 $1,015,000

$200.000.00 signing bonus as a 5th round draft pick is a lot more than I ever expected. Hopefully he can stay on a roster for a couple more years.

He is from the Cleveland area (Mentor), his dad is a successful broker, he has roots there. So, if it does NOT work out and he decides to hang up the cleats, he doesn't have long trip home to think about "what might have been"...

He always wanted to bring a championship to "The 'Land", and while Lebron James may have gotten more publicity for his homecoming and recent success I won't be surprised if Stanzi is the first local guy to come home and bring a championship to Cleveland.
