Why is he only a three star? it seems like he has been tearing up all the schools in Florida. Ive only seen one of his games and he could not be touched. has anyone watched him and seen any weaknesses that are causing him to stay a 3 star?

I thought I read somewhere that either a Scout or Rivals scout thought he would get another "star" before the recruiting season is over. That may have been Gordon, though.

He's a pocket passer. Except for a handful of schools nobody likes pocket passers. Everybody wants the scramblers these days. That's why.

I don't care if he is a 2 3 or 4 star. The kid is good and fits into Iowa's system well. The gurus are all about flash and the kid that can just stand in the pocket and make the pass is great, but they don't give him 4 stars. Who cares he'll be a good one for Iowa no matter what his stars are.

Bingo

By all accounts it sounds like Derby will not be switching to another position. If they were going to switch him to LB, dont you think this year would have been the year to do it? We ended up playing 4 freshman at LB. I actually think playing Derby this year at LB would have helped the D. Also, I have read a lot of people complaining about ken okeefe and the offensive philosophy. I am not agreeing, nor disagreeing with that sentiment. But, doesnt Derby, if he gets on the field, at least bring another dimension to the O that it has lacked since Brad Banks? That worked out pretty well for the Hawkeyes and the Offense. I have read the problem with Derby has been his accuracy, so the other dimension may be the only similarity to Banks.

The staff will give players a chance to play where they want. They wouldn't impose a position change on a freshman. Letting him play QB this year allows Derby to find out where he stands, and possibly see the writing on the wall, at which point he could make the decision for himself.

Rudock didn't get a 4th star because the recruiting sites were skeptical about his size. I remember Rivals saying that he was listed about an inch or two taller and probably 10 pounds heavier than reality. A crappy reason to downgrade a recruit IMO, but whatever.

With regard to him jumping Derby, it's definitely possible but by no means a foregone conclusion. Derby did redshirt this year, and he won't start next year in front of Vandenberg. Given two years to develop his game and work on his passing, he may actually become a pretty good passer. Look at freshman Denard Robinson compared to this year. He was basically only a running threat last year and not involved much at all with passing. He's by no means a pinpoint passer this year, but he's developed tremendously from where he started. I think if Derby has two years to focus almost exclusively on passing, he may be a once-in-a-decade type talent at QB.
