RPI and BPI both at 45 per ESPN

I'm guessing that when selection sunday comes around, Purdue will be our worst loss to date. I'm also thinking if it ends up our worst loss, our record will be 12-6 at worst. There are only 2 games left on our schedule that are harder than at Purdue.

I agree that Purdue was probably our worst loss to date. And I maintain that if Aaron White had not been injured during that game it was a game we would have won.

What is the "safe" RPI number that always gets in? By that I mean the worst one that is always still good enough.

I'm not afraid to play any B1G team on a neutral court...other than Wisconsin. And we know Wisconsin isn't going to be our 1st game if we are in the top 4. My preference is to be the 2 or 3 seed opposite either Maryland or Ohio State. Michigan State has our number so I prefer to avoid them. I'm not afraid to play them but history is what it is...

I agree about not being afraid to play any of the other top teams. I would say we would be close to 50/50 with any of the other top teams. I just wouldn't mind getting another "automatic win" before we play those teams. Obviously not at the expense of a bye though. I just remember last year feeling we needed 1 more win so I was glad we were playing a terrible team first. That clearly didn't work out well though.

Iowa jumped about 10 spots in the kenpom after last night's game. They were in the low 40s and now are sitting at #33. Maryland is right there at #34.

I don't know the answer to this question. But I do know the number doesn't have to be as good in a power conference as it does in a mid major.

Question for y'all. What's our worst loss? Do we have a bad one? @ Purdue? Getting stomped @ Wisky? Neutral court vs. a now-fading Texas team?

I'd say Syracuse is their worst loss and will only get worse. Syracuse still has to play Duke twice, Virginia, Louisville and @Notre Dame which at this point is probably all losses. Also, their self-imposed postseason ban means no ACC tournament for them either. They probably have very little motivation the rest of the year and could start messing with personnel, lineups and all that junk and really tank this season.

Hopefully they can somehow win a couple of those tough games, and we should root hard for them the rest of the way. However, it's not unthinkable that they could end up 17-14 this year.

That being said, I doubt think the committee would ever consider Syracuse to be a bad loss

If you're in a major conference and finish in the RPI top 40, you are a lock for the tournament. I would feel safe saying that top 50 RPI teams from the major conferences will all get in.

Iowa's RPI last year ended up around 60th and they still got in to the play-in game.

Here's a link that will answer a lot of your questions: Link

Of Big 6 conferences, #40 was left out once. Every other 1-40 team from a Big 6 team got in from '05-'12.

Interesting question. The short answer is they don't have a bad loss. I think the worst loss so far is against Syracuse. Second may be Michigan State being it was home and in the fashion they did it. Iowa was favored in both the Syracuse and MSU games but underdogs against Purdue.

Iowa will be fine, but their worst loss is probably yet to come. As you pointed out, they will probably be favored in all but one or two of their remaining games.

I'm not going to say Purdue because of White's injury and because I think Purdue has a pretty good team. They also have a front court to take away our biggest advantage. For me it's Syracuse. I don't think they're that good this year and we probably should have won that one.

I agree with others that we don't have any bad losses. But if I were to rank them it's Syracuse 1st and Michigan State a close 2nd...should not have beaten us on our home floor.

Ha, always on the same page.
