Roy Williams article on his Iowa recruiting

You're wrong. Ive talked to his parents many times. Todd Lickliter was at Iowa, of course he didnt have interest in Iowa. Paige was snooping around Iowa as late as last fall when Woodbury and Gesell committed, ultimately he stuck with UNC as it was late in the game, but there was absolute interest.
People keep saying Paige was looking at Iowa after Woodbury and Gesell committed, but it just wasn't true. Or, he's a good liar (see article from Nov 9, 2011 below).

Stop the rumors: Paige signs with Tar Heels

Marcus Paige heard the rumors this fall, just like everyone else.

They began after Adam Woodbury and Mike Gesell, two of his buddies on the All-Iowa Attack AAU basketball team, committed to play at the University of Iowa.

"I definitely heard it," Paige said Wednesday afternoon. "Adam Woodbury and Gesell are two of my best friends, and when they committed to Iowa the buzz started that I was considering Iowa. That wasn't true."

I tend to agree. While I dont like seeing any of the big time in state talent leaving, I prefer that they go play at a place like UNC or Kansas as opposed to going to another B1G school.

Big time in-state talent leaving Iowa is a thing of the past. Thanks to Fran. Yes Paige got away, but that was after an 11 win season. Losing seasons are also a thing of the past. Expect no less than 20 wins per season my friends from here on out with coach McCaffery. I believe in Fran almost blindly. He is good. He has made it known that he is here to stay and what he wants to do. He will get it done or come damn close.

I think coach Hoiberg will keep more top talent in state as well. I really like what is is doing at Iowa State.

Yes, what Fred and Fran are doing will keep the next top Iowa players in the state. It's looking very good for both programs.

Here's to continued success.

Maybe it's time for Iowa recruits to stop buying what Coach Williams is selling. It's very, very difficult to get to the Final Four. The four coaches who are coaching in this year's Final Four have over 20 career losses in the Elite Eight and Final Four. With the "one and done" mentality in NCAA basketball, the top recruits are going to keep leaving early.

I respect Coach Williams and his program, but I don't follow Carolina basketball, regardless of who is playing for Carolina.

NCAA tournament? Final Fours? National Championships? Roy Williams is one of the cleanest recruiters around.

Is that why Kansas was put on probation his last two years there?

Also, if you think he's a great coach that developes players, you're mistaken. He's won the bare minimum to make 'national championships' plural, while recruiting more McDonald's AA than any other coach.

He consistently gets less out of the talent he's able to recruit than anyone else in the nation.

That, by definition, is a snake oil salesman.
