Rough tough game with some high helmet hits

The helmet to helmet during the sack on CJ in the 2nd quarter that caused the ball to roll around (and the fumble later overturned) reminded me of vintage MSU.

The player wasn't tossed. The helmet to helmet wasn't called. If the fumble had been confirmed or stood I think I would've lost it.

You've redeemed yourself quite well from my earlier chastisement in the "Pitt v. Iowa legends thread".

Excellent post, except CJ could beat the crap out of Hogan :)

Hey no worries...sloppy first thread on my part. Excited to participate and i threw late over the middle into double coverage :) thank you sir. What a game!!!

Tell me the truth: were you REALLY thinking Hulkster? Because I was thinking CJ with Clint Eastwood's serape blanket thrown over his shoulder, with the addition of a no-filter Pall Mall in the corner of his mouth!

What you just described would be flat out legendary! I think the excitement from last night was more like Old school wwf..but if your vision becomes reality we will be sitting with 10 wins and cjb a hawkeye legend.

The hit on CJ was a direct helmet to helmet hit.

Those officials are from the ACC however...maybe they were used to Duke vs UNC basketball and didn't know the difference.

I usually don't complain about the refs much but those ACC guys last night were weak. The worst call was the "no call" mugging of the Hawk receiver when the Pitt safety ran in to him well ahead of the ball arriving. The holding call on Blythe was also ridiculous.
The ACC commissioner, John Swofford, was the AD at UNC-Cheat when the AFAM scandal get started. He's as dirty as they come and I would bet any amount of money that he had a "discussion" with his refs. There's no other earthly reason why they missed that pass interference call. On the replay, I saw 2 refs looking directly at the WR when he got hit.

That was a tough, hard hitting game that the hawks did not back down a bit. Narduzzi is a good coach but he also brought some of the MSU thuggery. I thought there were a few Pitt tacklers who had the crowns of their helmets making helmet to helmet contact, dangerous when you see it more than once.

After the review on Canzeri's 2nd TD Narduzzi (or as my son texted to me 'Nar-******-i') was mad and arguing with the official.

Hard game to get a running game going.

Hats off to the hawks and the coaches. The receivers did well and good to see the TEs get more action.

High helmet hits - how could those not get called? For one obvious reason - Pitt's ACC officials. Why the hell were they officiating the game? And yes, Pitt got a free pass for holding all night. I have a question, on that one helmet hit that CJ took that originally - and ridiculously - was called a fumble and then overturned, why wasn't Ferentz in one of the official's faces giving them hell about a cheap "Narduzzi" shot that could have seriously hurt CJ? My god, you HAVE to go after the official to get that dirty s**t stopped and protect your players. Couldn't believe Ferentz did nothing. What's with this passivity?

I counted at least 3 helmet to helmet hits, 2 on Beathard, and 1 on Vandeburg that knocked him woozy. Throw in the missed pass interference on Pitt, I was beginning to suspect the ACC reps objectiviy at half time, but it seemed better in the 2nd half.

Those shots made me very, very angry. In a sport whose future is at risk on the concussion issue, the rule is there for a reason, how can you NOT make the call???

On the Vandeburg shot, I saw his left arm stiffen and immediately said "concussion". I don't think his arm was hit directly but could be wrong.

Totally agree, I'd love to see CJB sit out next week against North Texas to give his brain a break. It would never happen, but maybe early in the second quarter his "ankle has a mild sprain"

I don't think the VandenBerg hit was illegal, you could argue the receiver had enough room to gather himself (barely) and was not defenseless. Matt probably should have gotten down. The hit the caused the almost fumble on CJB was definitely illegal. Do not understand the 2 obvious PI calls that were missed (VandenBerg getting pushed to the ground coming out of his cut, Smith getting tackled by 2 players while the ball was in the air). Perhaps they could say the Smith play was uncatchable, but that is pretty hard to determine when the WR is tackled as soon as the ball leaves the QBs hand.

The 2 holds on Blythe were both ridiculous, and I thought Ott got held pretty plainly on Pitt's last TD, but I never saw a good replay of it.

I clearly am biased towards the Hawks, but I am usually the last one to claim any one team gained any advantage due to officiating. Perhaps a Pitt fan could give a similar run-down of plays they thought the refs missed, but I doubt it. I doubt there was any conspiracy or intentionality to the calls, but they missed quite a few that went against the Hawks.

I am okay with KF not whining on the sidelines. I thought Narduzzi's response to the late TD review was silly and childish; anyone who knows anything about football knew there was nothing conclusive within that replay. To scream "********!", jump up and down, and wave his arms in disgust did not reflect well on him.
