Ross Pierschbacher 1st Tem AA by Sporting News

I bought the Sporting News college football preview magazine yesterday. Towards the back they have a 2014 High School All American list and Pierschbacher is on the 1st team. I thought that was awesome. I don't know a ton about recruiting rankings, but he is currently a 4 star on Rivals, maybe he moves up in due time.

Oh and SN picks Iowa last in the Legends division. They do think Iowa will contend (but fall short) of a bowl bid this year.

Said it before, will say it again: Pierschbacher is easily the best prospect I've seen from Iowa. Grinding, dominant run blocker who creates some serious initial pop and finishes blocks. Has enough athleticism to develop into a high level pass blocker at OT as well. If he puts his mind to it, I believe he's capable of playing as a true freshman.

You mean best OL prospect or best at any position?

Any position. I'm only going from around 2000 or so. If you get the chance watch the kid live in HS you'll be in for a treat. He was already very good as a freshman/underclassman and has only gotten better since.

Did you ever see Blake Larsen of Atlantic play in HS? He was the #1 OL prospect in the nation as a senior before signing with Iowa. How would Ross P compare to him?

though i'm generally a cynic, i think Iowa has a legit shot at keeping him only for these three reasons

1. he seems to really like KF
2. he must have grown up a hawk fan
3. iowa knows how to develop linemen and get them to the NFL.

if he plays any other position, i don't think we could keep him.

also, and i know the kid is hated around here, but i saw Wegher put up videogame numbers against the supposed #1 team in the state. he is by far the best athlete i have ever seen in person.

anyway, i definitely think RP could get some decent time in as a freshman. we practically have a tradition of putting these guys in at guard their freshman year and then moving them to tackle after that.

So with the all the comments about Ross waiting to see how the Iowa season goes, is he still out there recruiting for Iowa with other prospects like he said he would? Somewhat of a dilemma if you ask me. I'm sure it's tough to pass up the thoughts of playing for a perennial NC contender, so I certainly get the respect he gave that offer. I'm just curious if he's laying off that stance of trying to convince other guys to come to Iowa. I think committed recruits can help a great deal in the recruiting process with relationship building and building bonds for the future, especially since he's a such a highly rated guy and a HS all-american. Would be great to have him pushing the agenda out there.

Hes a lifelong Iowa fan, but the Alabama offer is ridiculous and would be tough to pass up. At the end of the day, hes a hawkeye. Just keep him away from any officials to Tuscaloosa on gameday

blake larsen played in the same conference as my home town. supposedly the players on my home town team said that the rankings were a bit of hype. that being said, what do they know.....same hometown of our current left OT.

We need to hope that he has a lot of loyalty to Iowa as there is no other advantage we have on Alabama besides possibilies of earlier playing/starting time because bama is so stacked.

In the past you could say Iowa develops OL players better than most but that isn't true anymore.

Based on what I've read I'm thinking he will be a hawk. I worry more about the history Iowa has had with higher rated recruits not producing when they get here. I don't think out history is that great with multiple stars.

Why isnt it true anymore ? Just wondering

His comments about seeing how things play out with Iowa had more to do with whether KF was still there after this season or not....not how Iowa's season was going to go from a W-L standpoint. The kid loves KF and he loves the Hawks. I think in the end we keep him because the one trump card we have compared to Alabama is the number of OL we have put into the league vs what Alabama has put into the league over that timeframe.

I would say that quite a few of the higher rated players had either the injury bug (Dan Doering/Tony
Moeaki) or from what I heard lacked a real work ethic and tried to play of sheer talent (Jake C - talent ha ha ha). Jake C. was highly touted at least but he really didn't live up to his ranking.

I think the big time recruits already think they've made it and don't have to put in the work, essentially because they did well in hs and were highly recruited they will be the best in college. So they enter with a different mindset of a two star who has something to prove.
