Ross P #2 LG at Bama

Ross Pierschbacher who de-committed from Iowa after the loss against Northern Illinois.

More than likely he would have red shirted.

Pierschbacher actually did not decommit after the loss to NIU. He decommitted from Iowa and committed to Alabama before the season started last year.

To the OP's point--during the recruiting process, the narrative that Iowa tried to sell Ross on was that he would be given every opportunity to start at LG during his true freshman season and that he would be first in line to replace Scherff when his sophomore year rolled around. He was going to be on the same sort of fast track that Bulaga was on in '07.

Mike Jones started as a true freshman I believe. It is rare for freshman to start on the Oline right away. It's just tough for 18 yr olds to be on par physically with 21 and 22 yr olds who have been in the weight room for 3 or 4 years more. Not to mention the mental side of the game. I'd just have a tough time burning the redshirt of a kid to be the #2. I'd pull it in case of emergency but not for a series or two here and there in blowouts.

Now RBs are different then lineman but i'm still not happy over Iowa burning LeShun Daniels RS. I almost feel they should RS him this year and only use him in case of an emergency. Sure would be nice with him having 3 more years to play then 2 considering what few touches he'll get again this year.

Are we still on this guy? He plays for Alabama he will never play for Iowa and we will never (likely) play Alabama while he is in school. No reason to discuss him on this board.

yes, mike jones was forced into action as a true freshman. ferentz is on record saying he wished he didn't have to do that at the time, but kinda forced into it due to injury situations. 1st start v. OSU in the shoe:

Ike is doing great to get to where he is and from what I know he's always been a hard worker so not surprising. But to be fair, he didn't have other options coming out of high school at the time like Ross did so not a good comparison. If he had been a highly sought recruit, who knows what he would have done. But based on Ike being behind Scherff right now, it looks like he could be a 3 year starter which is amazing and could very well land him a job playing on Sundays. That's quite a leap for him and very well done!

A true freshman lineman playing? That would be disparate. An 18 year old needs a year or two to be ready for the big time. Better hope number one doesn't go down.

Alabama is starting a true freshman at Left Tackle (Cam Robinson, just a child, only 6'6" 323 lbs, probably needs to add a little size before he's really ready). I think they'll be ok with a true freshman backing up at guard.

When a man commits to something he simply should not go back on his word. I don't think highly of him for that reason, and I hope people like that fail.
You mean people like Desmond King, Mark Weisman, and the other dozen or so players on Iowa's roster who at one time or another were committed to another program?

This is the greatest post ever. Bet old Nick either didn't know or is just a huge hypocrite. Either way i can't wait for his response if he dares to defend his ignorant stance on the issue.
