Romeo McKnight

Does he make like the 4th DE of the class? I'd say that's plenty unless one or two end up moving to DT or LB. Which I'm sure will be the case down the road. Never the less we need athletic framed bodies that Doyle can work with and he sure looks to fit that description.

I would think at least 1 of these guys moves to DT. Like you said they're athletic kids with frames Doyle can mold.

I think everyone also needs to remember that Iowa has made about 200 offers for the 2016 recruiting class. The odds are very good that they may get more the verbals than the estimated 25 available scholarships. That means the coaches will have to make some decisions about who they actually end up signing come February.

McKnight had originally planned on taking more visits in July and had growing interest from Illinois and Purdue. He's now not taking any more visits. The more up front recruiting tactics in getting these kids to commit earlier may already be paying off....At least I hope so.

Good article here on McKnight who is also a hell of a wrestler (Illinois state champ last year). Sounds like a great kid and if he's a good wrestler probably has a great work ethic ....

Thanks for posting. That was an interesting article. When you look at how he was being looked at as a collegiate wrestler and the fact that nobody from that high school had signed with a D-1 program since 1993 it's easy to see how he was overlooked. You don't typically see a guy that lightly recruited who shows up at a Nike camp and handles two 5 star lineman and is picked as one of the top two defensive ends at the Nike camp. I always like a good wrestler too. Always seems to translate well to line play. Definitley feel good about this one.

After watching his game tape it appears that he rarely puts his hand on the ground. I think his size/ athleticism might suit him better if he gets pulled to outside linebacker. Plus, the transition could be easier by letting him play the DE in the raider packages.

However, this all might be due to me not wanting to over sign too many DEs in this class and hinder any chance of snagging Eppy's son next year. Still this kid looks solid to me and i am glad he is on board!!
