If a person can get charged with fibbing to Congress than shouldn't Congresspersons face criminal charges if they lie to the public?

acquitted does not mean not guilty. it means they did not prove guilt and the person cannot be retried for the same crime (double jeopardy) even if new evidence comes up. our system is not about proving innocence. it is about proving 100% guilt. and if the prosecution doesnt do that than they are acquitted.

I guess I look at this as a "not guilty" verdict as opposed to ruling him "innocent". Simply a lack of evidence is what gets most of these guys off the hook in court, not actual innocence. Exactly what Foval just said.

IMO, Clemens is guilty as sin, and most of those who have said over the years that they never used PEDs are liars, but none of this ever holds up in court. I don't think anybody is fooling the public though (at least not most of it).

Exactly. The trial did not serve any purpose, as no one's opinion has been changed. It's not like he was going to do any real time if they had convicted him. I think they prosecuted him just to quiet the murmur that Bonds' prosecution was racially motivated. Now, they wasted more tax dollars trying to convict a white guy of a crime for which no one ever gets charged with (in the sane world). Slate's even.
