This is absolutely hilarious. I know it won't get alot of play, but just a complete joke of a choice this year. Blankenship missed the most important kick fo the year against South Carolina...it cost them a tie and a chance to win. He choked.
Duncan kicked more field goals, made every critical attempt...which included several games where his kicks were critical to the outcome...think Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue, Nebraska.
Unfortunately...ESPN has an SEC dick in their mouth most of the season...it shouldn't surprise us that they finally swallow at the end.

The SEC is better than the Big Ten. It just is. Blankenship might be a better kicker than Duncan, but Duncan had a better year. Blankenship just won a popularity contest because he's been around longer and he is "quirky" with those glasses or whatever.

He also missed two key field goals in the first half vs. LSU in the SEC title game that could have turned the tide for Georgia. When he missed that second one I told myself Duncan just won the Groza award.

These things are all huge popularity contest anyway, I guarantee you no NFL scout gives a F if someone wins the Billy Bob Nefresketori Man Of The Year award, they want guys who can kick a football accurately a long ways.
I mean I get that it'd be nice to be recognized, but if we're sitting here saying what a joke and farce this thing is, why the F would he want it anyway?

It's not a joke of an award...it's really the ultimate personal goal of every kicker. The joke is how it was awarded.
There really is no way you can justify this award going to Blankenship..other than to say it's lifetime...which it isn't. It's an annual thing. He choked in two games...big games. That's not what the best kicker in the land does.

it’s very lame, but Georgia and the SEC have a massive fan base. Giving awards to players from little ole Iowa would be very bad for business.
jonathan Taylor not being a heisman finalist is just as big a snub.
