Robert Gregory/Jordan Diamond!

Best part of whole story:

Recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. “Iowa does in my opinion the best job in the country of developing players. And a kid like Gregory if he gets developed could be a Heisman Trophy candidate.”

So...

Vandenberg (JR)2011 & (SR)2012 seasons

Rudock (SO)2013, (JR)2014, & (SR)2015

Gregory (SR)2016?

Is that right, he'd only(possibly) get to start one year?

Nice article thanks for posting. Sounds like they are going to be highly sought after next year. Would love to see a dual threat QB again at Iowa.

I love it how some people pencil players in before they are even on campus. Isn't that what some did with Arvell Nelson, the other QB from Ohio? He was the QB in waiting over Stanzi, right?

Sorry Mac. I just saw you did post this early this AM. When I searched "Robert Gregory," nothing came up.

I just posted a link in another thread. You had to seriously investigate Sherlock Holmes style to find that. It would have been easier to find WMD in Iraq than to find that.

Brad Banks was Iowa's last dual threat QB. Look at how diverse and explosive that offense was. Of course, Brad had an outstanding supporting cast (O-line, Dallas Clark, etc).

Welp thats how you recruit. Coaches are doing the same thing.

besides stanzi, our recent successes and 02-04 string of top 8 finishes was made by first year starters. you could argue both sides i guess. but it seems the longer a qb is comfortable here, their production lags (in W's and L's at least)

Technically 09 was Stanzis first year starting (full year) remember he didnt get the job in 08 till mid season. So i guess your argument still stands.

good catch, technically you are right. You could definitely make an arguement the difference in your state of mind entering the season as the clear favorite for the starting spot, versus "winning" a position battle mid-year with the fear of losing it again. I think that once stanzi became the starter almost everyone never looked back, because one could argue he already had that mentality entering the Outback Bowl.

I think that stanzi did a tremendous job preparing for the year, but it did not translate into W's as much as the average fan was anticipating. Kinda like a student who studies his *** off, and more times than not would ace that test, the one time he doesn't -it then negatively affects his test preparation the rest of the semester. You could easily see how Stanzi "regressed" as the year progressed. this could have happened from the cumulative effect of the pressure both to perform in his senior season for himself, but also wanting to succeed for his team. It could be argued that some of our current players may never again have the pre-season hype that this season brought.

any way you slice it, I have always felt underclassmen "forced" into action perform at a higher level for our program. We as hawkeye fans have always cherrished the hard-working "Special Teams" & "Next-man-In" players. My arguement is won with the new found love for James Morris, while still being a lil' wet behind the ears in experience.

Let's hope that i am spot on with our "new" starting safeties, and Vandy.
