I have no idea how good of a QB he is, but he has an amazing arm as a pitcher and I can't believe he's not going to college to pitch. Clocked at 92 in a game, which is not normally where a pitcher would top out. As a LHP, he's big time (and not just for an Iowa HS pitcher).Dekkers and West Sioux beat undefeated #3 ranked West Lyon last night, after losing their first game to #6 Western Christian last week.
Perhaps this win will allow West Sioux (#8) a better chance to get into the playoffs where they will have a chance to become 3 time state title winners with Dekkers.
Perhaps his best long term opportunity is as a left handed MLB pitcher.
Was hoping Iowa would take him, given his mobility and size at the QB position.

Bingo. New streak started. He's a natural athlete. Boyle and Cook and Derby were also natural athletes. And if cousinbreeder comes along and says, "The world won't come to an end if he isn't a Hawkeye" or my other favorite chestnut "we'll be okay without him" -- yes, that's factual. And nobody ever in the history of the world thought that missing on a single high school kid signaled the Apocalypse or affected Iowa's ability to win games.
Jack Benevienti. Wasn't terribly late, though it was during his senior season. He got benched by his HS team for poor performance, so unfortunately we had to pull the offer. He ended up at like Western Illinois or the like.Didn't Iowa once have 3 committed QBs till they pulled the rug on one of em late? 2 doesn't seem like too many depending on roster beyond that class
My memory is fading some. It just seemed like the kid may have had other options on the table but since offer was pulled so late that limited them. But if he wasn't that good of a prospect to begin because of his senior season performance Iowa dodged a bullet anyway. I couldn't remember who the other 2 QBs were or what season. It felt like it was awhile ago already thoughJack Benevienti. Wasn't terribly late, though it was during his senior season. At the time it looked like we'd take both Boyle and Cook as athletes, but they ended up sticking as QBs (for a while anyways).
I’ve watched him quite a bit this year as well as some of the top 4A QB’s. When Dekkers was a sophomore I thought he was the best QB in the state .He's a natural athlete. It's pretty standard practice to take 1 QB every year, for competition AND attrition's sake. With the rise of the transfer portal, it's even more important. Not only do we not need another QB in this class, I think we should RS Deuce Hogan and not worry about taking another QB until the 2022 recruiting cycle. We are getting too many QB’s bunched up altogether. We will be lucky if Mansell and/or Padilla don’t enter the transfer portal in the near future.
Yeah I get it. But don’t you think we are just feeding the portal in this manner. Shouldn’t it be time to adjust our recruiting, considering the portal is just gonna get larger. After all, we can always use the same said portal to fill any leaks with proven guys if we need to. And there is always the Juco route in addition to recruiting freshmen. Seems like when a guy transfers, he always ends up doing pretty good for another program other than ours. You spend a lot of hours recruiting and a lot of money on a guy, then only have him to leave after couple of years. Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to recruit someone from a Juco or portal in less time and less money spent with a freshman QB sprinkled in there every now and then? It's pretty standard practice to take 1 QB every year, for competition AND attrition's sake. With JUCO or the portal, you're looking at guys who are only looking for early playing time, so going after the ones who are worth that becomes much more of a battle, especially if they've already proven they can succeed at this level.Yeah I get it. This is not an EA video game. Not every QB recruited is going to work out, even if they stay. Taking one every year allows teams to pad depth and recruit a marginal product with big upside if they don't need to start after a year.Yeah I get it.
