Rob Howe to talk PSU/His Perspective today at 1:30

Would love to hear the recap as I'm at work. Jon, thank Rob for sharing his story. It's heartbreaking and I hope he's received more support than he anticipated by writing about it.

Sorry Jon, I just can't listen to that. I understand PSU/child molestation is an important topic but that stuff just ruins my day. I feel for those that had this happen to them but the entire point of sports is to take you away from real life.

I have to agree. When you have sports talkshow hosts nationwide delving into child molestation for the entire week, I think things have gone a bit haywire.

Guys, listen in, educate yourselves so perhaps we can avoid this from happening again. As gut wrenching it is if we run from it and pretend it doesn't happen it will just get worse. But the bigger awareness we can create and get these people help, even if it stops 1 person that makes it all worth it.

didn't say it wasn't important and if this segment helps even one little boy it's plenty worth it in the grand scheme of things for one listener to decide to listen to something else for the day.

Awareness is needed that child molestation is not OK? I think society pretty much established that as bedrock with the fall of Rome. What allowed this to happen was the cult of personality that surrounded the PSU athletics program. That is the subject that needs to be addressed to avoid a repeat. And for the record, I think it has been addressed.

At this point, I am begging for someone to bring up whether Pete Rose should get into the hall of fame.

The best thing about radios are the dials and freedom to turn them.

As has been the case for me since day one of my own show, through today, I am going to discuss things I feel are relevant. They won't always be what you want to hear.

When that happens, change your station, as Mike Tyson said.

Neil, you r right things r haywire in a society where 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 3 girls are sexually assaulted by the age of 18

Before this week, most people didn't know that. Now they do. And I hope they learn what can be learned to do their part to prevent it and better protect their children.

another good one from Tyson was that 'you are smart too late and old too soon'......

not to derail the thread, but JD's Tyson quote made me think of that one.

you are right, lots of problems in society.

i think lots can be learned from this situation - here is one of them - many people are saying what they'd have done if they'd been McQuery - well, many people will get the chance some day to report a crime, etc. If they ever have a doubt, they can think back to this situation and remind themselves what they'd have done if they were McQuery.

Thanks for having Rob on, Jon. I only caught the last 15 minutes of the show, but it is something that needs to be talked about.

My wife and I were talking this morning about this. She said that she hears stories like this all the time (Oprah) but as we have seen, this being tied into sports has made the discussion reach a whole other stratosphere. It is very difficult and uncomfortable to talk about but we need to.

There is a reason why Oprah has had men on her show numerous times talking about their past as sex abuse victims.

Men are macho and this is unspeakable. But seeing or hearing other men talk about it is incredibly powerful for men who have been ashamed or quietly living this nightmare and helps them get help

I mentioned in another thread that I was a victim of a predator priest, and filed a lawsuit against an Archdiocese when I learned (as an adult) that the Archdiocese simply transferred the priest to another parish, even after I reported what had happened to the principal of my (Catholic) school. That priest - of course - went on to molest dozens more. When I filed that lawsuit, many people blasted me in letters to the editor. Perhaps now, in light of the PSU scandal, more people will understand why I did it, and why we all need to concern ourselves with victims before anyone or anything else.

JD - if you're going to quote Iron Mike, please do it accurately.

It is, "if you don't like it, turn off your station."
