I'm not playing dime store psycologist here, but I've been around young men in a similar situation to DJK. Young men who were rescued from a rough upbringing and found themselves in a much more stable environment. Every single one of them, to some degree, wrestled with their identity as young adults. They didn't really fit into the "fortunate" crowd as they weren't born into it, and yet they didn't fit into the "street" crowd as thier peers there looked at them as soft, or as a poser. As a result many ended up spending much of thier time trying to fit into one crowd, the other crowd, or both.
I wonder how much DJK struggled with similar feelings? My guess is a lot.
