Road to the Championship

Alright, Iowa has two in their sights..

Big Ten
National

Michigan State is in the way. What does Iowa need to do to win their first game in East Lansing since 1995???

1. Take care of the ball
1A. Take care of the ball
1B. Take care of the ball

Score 17-21 points, put the game in the D's hands, escape with another close one. Feel the venom from national media on how we win ugly, don't deserve our ranking, and don't belong in the BCS Title Game discussion.

That's my overly simplistic view...

Get off the bus.
throw helmets on field.
........three hours later "in heaven there is no bear"
badda bing badda undefeated.

1. Run the ball solidly from start to finish.
2. Limit MSU's points off turnovers.
3. Continue to dominate when the other team drops back to pass.
4. Score the points we can score: TDs when we're close, make field goals, and don't turn the ball over in MSU territory.

1.Protect the ball
2.Establish run game
3.Make MSU offense one dimensional

#2 is big... Need to open up the run with passing on first down. Once MSU pulls that safety out for pass protection, Iowa needs to take advantage with Robinson and Wegher.

Most important play is going to be every First Down in this game. Iowa needs to create more 2nd and 4's instead of 2nd and 7's. Those 3 yards will be a difference maker.

We have a long road ahead. I really hate to say it, but I think we slip up along the way. We are a very good football team, but our defense against the spread is what scares me. We still have two really good "Spread" teams left in Indiana and Northwestern.

Iowa needs to control the ball against MSU. We need to have long sustained drives and we also need to take care of the ball. The weather is sounding like PSU game, alot of rain and cold temps. So Iowa will need to be careful with the football.

Overall I see the hawks starting slow again, allowing MSU to score the first points again. I think this game will go down to the wire, very similar to PSU game last year. I just have a bad feeling about this game and I pray I am wrong in my feeling.

Prediciton:
Hawks 24
MSU 23

Stanzi: 13-28 130yds 1TD 1INT
A-Rob: 18 carries 56yds 1TD
McNutt: 4 rec 56yds 1TD

Defense: Spivey gets a pick 6, The defense holds on late to seal the win!

Actually, I think it's the other way around...I think we need to open up passing and back off their stud LB. Once we get them playing for the pass, then go to the running game and get Robinson going. It seems like this has worked best this year with teams stacking the box. Stanzi can definitely take advantage and burn their secondary with DJK and Moeaki!
