Rivals Top 150 List 2012 released today

I am really baffled as to why so many Cyclown fans frequent this board and act surprised that we don't share their cult-like ideologies. To be perfectly honest, I don't care about Iowa State, their recruiting or their fans. I have no desire to frequent their boards and stir the pot and yes, I am the guy that would be giddy if ISU lost every game in every sport every year. All this 'good for the state shinola' has always been a one way street. Debating these zealots just inspires them to come back for more.

You have your new b-ball icon in Hoiberg and every player you have is a future NBA draft pick and we will be lucky to keep it under 50 for the rest of Hoiberg's time in Ames and soon ISU will mentioned in the company of Duke, UNC and KU. Yes, I would have preferred that Niang picked Iowa, but he didn't, so enjoy his 1-2 years before he enters the draft due to Hoiberg's mentorship. When you guys actually care about more than two games a year, I will take you seriously. Until then, keep your eyes on the price (Cy-Hawk Trophy).

Iowa offered and brough him in for an official visit, even after the now exceptional Kyle Meyer was aboard. I don't know what Fran's priorities are, but neither does the a**wipe poster who now claims that Iowa never wanted him anyways. To Hawk fans I guess it is inconceivable that someone would pick ISU over Iowa.
He didn't come to Iowa on an official visit.

Absolutely...not.
1st would it be nice to get some talented kids out of the backyard, yes, but it won' be the end of the world.
Iowa is not a good program right now and these local kids seeing it, doesn't do any favors, granted Iowa could have won 14-16 games last year, so that doesn't hurt.

The other reason that I say no is becuase if Fran were to not get Gesell, but pull off getting Jelon Hornbeak, I will take Hornbeak any day of the week. If Fran can't secure Woodbury, but can get Ibeh, comparable ranking, all good things. Even if Iowa doesn't get kids that have that similar of ranking, it is okay, Fran can coach and develop kids beyond their raw abilities through preperation. Fran recruits kids that feel they have something to prove, at least that is what it seems when reading their comments after they have signed.

While I am a big fan of keeping quality talent close, if the alternatives are better or comparable, then who cares where they come from. People in Ohio may be saying the same things about Aaron White and are glad he is going to Iowa and not Xavier/Cincy/OSU. Local talent can be under and overvalued by fanbases. Kids we don't see all the time are always better than the local kids.

Lastly, it would not surprise me if Iowa were to not get Woodbury or Gesell, but were able to compliment the verbal of Meyer with two or three kids in the mold of Hubbard. Long, athletic and versatile, there are a few on the interest and offer list that fit that are not the typical PG prospects, but have great ball handling abilities and with their athleticism would be more than capable of playing defense. Think about it, wouldn't it make sense to get a couple 6-3 to 6-6 athletes with good ball handling ability and press the heck out of people. Worrying about having a true PG would not be an issue if defensive pressure controls the game.

Have you ever thought anything bad about Iowa basketball. I gotta give you credit for seeing the positive in any scenario, but Gessel is someone I would classify as a "must get" right now. Not so much for Woodbury but him being a Hawk fan would be bad from the PR front.

Ignorance is bliss.

If you are an Iowa Basketball fan and haven't thought negatively about the last two coaches then there is a problem.
Alford was the beginning of the end for Iowa, if anyone doesn't think that, then winning is the only thing that mattered. The whole era was littered with arrest for drugs, alcohol, sexual assault, academic issues and scrambling most Springs to fill recruiting classes. Alford won, but at what cost, the program was in shambles when he left.
All the misgivings and the mistakes that were made, were magnified when Lickliter took over. Lickliter was not the right guy for Iowa. He didn't build anything at his previous stops and didn't have the first idea of how to make it right.

To your comment on the player that would more impact Iowa for recruiting. For me it is Woodbury, there is nothing wrong making an area of your team that much better. You can't teach his size and if he is Iowa's to lose, how about we don't?
Iowa can definitely use Gesell, but there may be some other players that fit better, not knock on Gesell, but it won't be gloom and doom if he goes elsewhere.

The only reason I classify Gesell as a must get is because he seems to be Fran's #1 target right now. It is not good to invest that much in a prospect only to have him go somewhere else.

I agree with that statement, but I think Iowa is in a better position with the offers and interest that they have to other PG's as well. Iowa put all their eggs in Cezar's basket and tried to scramble to get a PG after Payne couldn't accept a reserve role.
This year is a little different, the staff has been on a few guys for a while and I don't think that there are any guys out there that would be considered fall back recruits as they have proven some ability to play the game.
Honestly, as much as I would like Iowa not to lose Woodbury, it wouldn't surprise me to see them sign two PG's, but one would have to be Gesell, who can play both guard spots.

Hawkstrat thought he would take a little shot at Niang for some reason. Not sure why.

And you can't just let it go?

Here is an idea: Take it to rivalry forum and start a thread "Who will have the better career, Meyer or Niang?"

Take your shots there, or here is a novel concept, talk about how Iowa and ISU are both recruiting and have offered Kenny Gaines, something that is actually pertinent to this thread.

I see that Rivals also released a new top 100 for 2013. Surprised to see that Peter Jok did not make the list, nor any other player that Iowa is in the mix for, from what I can see.
I know Iowa will have only 2 schollys in 2013,which was a reason I was hoping for another juco pg this year...to add a scholly, but still consider it an important class for Fran. I do not care about Jok not making the list,he was hurt a lot this past year,no biggie...still want him to be a Hawkeye very badly...and Agua also, who also did not make the top 100. A lot of Chicago kids make the list,so you never know, but many seem to be too highly rated for Iowa to get in on...Illinois thinks they will get most that do not go to Duke or UNC or Ky. Hope not. 2012 is a bad year for Illinois preps, but 2013 is a great year. If Iowa misses on their top two targets, hope they can grab an overlooked prospect from Illinois.
