Too bad...he was very good at espn for many years before he was diagnosed, and he remained strong and vigalent as he fought his disease...he was a good sportscaster and will continue to be missed. Thanks for posting, good read as well.

Wasn't the biggest fan of his schtick. He came from the era of when it seemed every sports anchor had a catchphrase or one-liner. I guess Scott was the one who pushed it over-the-top for me it was like we get it you are a cool dude, you are friends with Micheal Jordan.

That being said, watching the tributes, watching his colleagues near tears as they talk about him shows you what type of man he really was. His speech at the ESPYs was some powerful stuff.

I had a family member pass away from cancer shortly before he made this speech. He was right on the money with what he said.

I had never heard the story of how he hurt his eye. From Wikipedia:

Scott was injured when hit in the face by a football during a New York Jets mini-camp on April 3, 2002, while filming a special for ESPN, a blow which damaged his cornea. He received surgery but afterwards suffered from ptosis, or drooping of the eyelid

Wasn't a huge fan of his as an anchor, but that's only a fraction of who he was. Not only fought one hell of a fight with cancer but what he did for the fight against cancer was monumental.

The efforts of those "celebrities" that have a national podium and continue to raise awareness and continue to fight is remarkable. It's so much better to see this then the stars who only care about themselves.
