Rick Stanzi: All Big Ten QB??

I think he is on the path...he is among the league leaders in passing yards per game, and his efficiency numbers keep moving up. When you factor into things that teams are basically forcing Stanzi and Iowa's passing game to beat them, if the Hawks keep on this path of destiny, the 2009 Iowa Hawkeyes may have a few things in common with past Iowa Big Ten title teams of 85, 90, 02 and 04; A first team all Big Ten QB

jon, it is hard to tell if most of the pick6 are due to bad throws, bad routes or miscommunication with the WR? but if he eliminates them going forward like the Wisc game, then he could have a very special second half of the season.

I know the pick 6's hurt ... but the guy always seems to rebound. You can't knock his record, he's 15-3 since becoming starter. Not to shabby eh?

I wouldn't generally think of Rick's performances as All-Conference. But who is better? Sure there are guys who might gather a few more yards, but after Kirk's smile in the Wisky game when Rick took a dive on 4th down, I'm thinking Rick finally gets it.

Look at what he means to the team. It isn't like we have been running all over the competition. As Ricky goes, so goes the offense.

If he plays close to error free ball like he did against Wisky (minus the one fumble), and the offense continues to catch up w/ the D, then Ricky will see some recognition and could mean BIG things for this team.

I'm getting more excited every day

I think the easy way to answer this is who would you rather have from the Big 10 teams? I'll take Rick. NW Kahfka(sp?) is a weapon at times I suppose, but who else?

I believe he could be in consideration for this. It very strongly hinges on him finishing the rest of the season strong. Very few picks and high efficiency. He has the tools, just needs to consistently put it all together.

I'm assuming it's only stats in Big Ten games that count toward this so Rick would only have 1 pick six. If he keeps this up and finishes with a 15-5 TD/INT ratio in conference and the team keeps winning...weird as it sounds but I think it's a no-brainer he's the all-big ten QB. And coming back next year!

I agree with Dewey. The race is between Clark and Stanzi. A solid performance at MSU and OSU would all but sew up the race for Stanzi.

Go Hawks!

I would have thought that this was a Clark/Stanzi race as well. But it looking at the statistics, I was a bit surprised to see that Stanzi's numbers are surprisingly...average.

Of course, as has been mentioned, there are still a couple critical games to go, so Stanzi really has a chance to improve his stock considerably. That OSU game will be big...

Ricky has been solid and will be as he matures more. The one concern I had Saturday was that he held the ball too long on two occassions and both ended poorly. I hope he was under direct orders not to pass the ball on that 4th down play because that was an easy pass and catch to Reisner for 6. I am a Ricky fan and I believe he will continue to get better. He is the catalyst of this offense.

I agree with Dewey. The race is between Clark and Stanzi. A solid performance at MSU and OSU would all but sew up the race for Stanzi.

I agree. Clark is back in a groove and if PSU runs the table as I suspect, he will be tough to beat. However, if Iowa runs the table, we will be the champs and very highly ranked so that will help Ricky.

Also, if Ricky can lead us to a win vs MSU...we then have 3 home games vs beatable teams left where he could get hot and his numbers might improve. But again, it could all come down to OSU for both Clark(home) and Ricky(road)...if a field general leads his troops to victories in 5 tough road environs....should get extra credit, plus head to head vs Clark ,Ricky won that matchup.
