Breaking news is that Penn State just received a commitment from former three-time New Jersey State Champion Jimmy Lawson.

141 and 11record through High School
Pinned his way through the state tournament in under 4 minutes as a senior

Matthew Stanmyre/The Star-Ledger is reporting that Lawson will leave the Monmouth football program to wrestle for Penn State.

This is a huge pick-up for them as Heavyweight was a major area of need.

He will be enrolling in the fall and should be set for next season and has two years of eligibility left.

That's a huge pickup for them. Their relative hole at Heavyweight was what I thought gave the Hawks the biggest chance to win the title back next year but it seems they plugged that hole with a pretty darn good wrestler. I read on the PSU board that he was the #3 ranked heavyweight in that class behind McMullan and Telford. I do not know how they still have scholarship $ available with their star filled roster. You can knock Cael for his coaching but man the guy can recruit.

Still wont be able to beat Telford.

I'd put my money on Bobby too the only problem is Lawson could score many more points at nationals than Ruggear or Gingrich likely could. This puts a lot more pressure on our 149 and 197 to score some major points if the Hawks are going to win it next year.

Was wondering myself how he still has money to give out!

Because when he has guys on scholly he does not need anymore he "ecourages" them to leave so he can use their money for other guys. Kemmerer and the guy who was starting at 141 earlier this year come to mind.

And how do you know that?

For starters I'll go with the fact that Telford has been in the Iowa Wrestling room for the last two years while Lawson was on the line of scrimmage. I'll throw in how High School State titles mean absolutely nothing in college. I could also base this on Telford being a Big Ten Finalist as a Freshman and the 5th seed at NCAA's but most of all I'll go with the fact that theres a reason this kid didn't choose wrestling coming out of High School and while he was a big recruit in 2009... it is no longer 2009. I just am not so quick to think this kid is going to having any impact, let alone one that effects the Hawks.
