Rhoads had some interesting things to say about Iowa's O-Line

Paul Rhoads, who I respect for his coaching ability and the class way he conducts himself, was asked on his radio show Monday night what he thought of Iowa's O-Line.

Here were his comments:

1. They knew last year that Iowa's line would be very good this year. He was right - they have improved and are very tough.
2. Iowa's run scheme, particularly with two tight ends, is very sophisticated and something that is hard to prepare for and to defend against.

I thought his analysis was very candid and quite interesting.

Class way he conducts himself? Okay, maybe in press conferences, but the guy jumps up and down like an idiot on the sidelines, and when his team pulls an upset, he acts like they just won the greatest championship ever created. It's not very classy.

Give him a break, DJL. He is excited during the games, unlike Landry, er uh, Ferentz. I think he's excitable in a positive way. Not even CLOSE to the sideline demeanor of Pelini or Mike Stoops.

I think Rhoads is a very good coach, he just has no capable bodies in the trenches this year.

I admit that I would like to see more fire out of KF, but I think there is a happy medium between zombie like, and maniac.

I prefer coaches that are closer to Ferentz's personality as far as demeanor on the sidelines. But I don't have anything against the coaches that get fired up through out the games. They put everything into what they do. I don't think it's so much of a classless thing to do after a win if your as fired up as he and other coaches can get. If they don't shake hands or try and be a jerk in some other way then sure. But coaches that are passionate and fight for their program and kids I don't have a problem with. I just prefer the more reserved even keeled aproach.

Why is it Hawk fans are so eager to call Paul Rhoads a good coach and then turn around and be critical of Ferentz?

Rhoads is in year 5 and looking down the barrel of a pretty bad season.
Dan McCarney in year 5, won 9 games.

Kirk Ferentz in year 4, won 11.

Rhoads best year was with Gene Chizek's players. Is it not Rhoads who is responsible for ISU not having anyone in the trenches?

Did anyone notice in the second quarter when Iowa came out in the wrong set on offense. Iowa called a timeout, and the offense came over to the sidelines, Kirk was there doing his best Fran rant, complete with finger pointing, walking away, and coming back for some more, walking away, and then giving it to the players again.

I hadn't seen that in a while from him, but he was PIZZED off. I also think it worked.

So do you dislike Fran's antics on the sidelines as well?

If Lazard decommits to ISU, Paul will probably be fired, after which, I hope Kurt, or perhaps Brain by that point, will hire him as DC, which is a position he can excel at.

If Lazard stays at ISU, he'll probably lead them to several 8+ win seasons, and we'll never have a shot at hiring Rhoades.

I don't understand why Hawk fans are so eager to judge anything about ISU (let alone any opposing team or coach). There are times it strikes me as quite pathetic, especially when it's so blatantly hypocritical and myopic toward the struggles the Hawks continue to fight through.

Doesn't Rhoads have 10 years, 20 million left?

It's all lost on me. I'm being serious here. Hard enough to recognize formations and personnel, but when you get into formations for certain formations and what they do after snap of the ball . . I'm interested but I really don't know that much about it other than how far the play went.

Pollard has sold 40,000 season tickets and Cyclones.tv is raking in money hand over fist. They have money to get rid of an non-performing coach and hire on a top coach to get to the next level.

This isn't your father's Cyclones. They are building something great. Revenue is up. The alumni base is stoked. Enrollment is at all time highs. Facilities are top notch. The south endzone is being rounded out. The sound system is second to none. They're nobody's doormat anymore.

not sure if you're serious. the liklihood of KFz hiring a cross-state rival as his DC is pretty slim.

Lazard is good, but one great WR does not an 8-win season make.

And the tornado siren!!!

LOL, I can't think of an easier offense to stop than one that literally runs the ball on 12 consecutive plays. We don't exactly have Melvin Gordon running the rock, either. What exactly did you expect him to say after that debacle? Iowa's not very good, but we're JUST THAT BAD? Iowa's scheme was about as complicated as children's pop-up book, but my coaching staff is so stupid and/or our players are so terrible that they made Greg Davis look like Bill Walsh?

Nobody could stop Nebraska when they ran the ball all day long in the option days
