Rewatched 2018 Nebraska game

If Martinez get's hurt, Husker fans will just say "wait until next year!" Just like those loser Cubs fans say all the time
Wow, are you watching the Cubs from 2009 or 2019?[/QUOTE]
I know there's a Cubs thread but....

The Cardinals haven't been seriously heard from since the Cubs dispatched them in the 2015 NLDS. Since then, it been like watching Reagan bankrupt the old Soviet Union because they couldn't keep up with us in the technology race. Now the Cards have lost Jordan Hicks and the Cubs have added Craig Kimbrel in the same week. Bye bye birdies

Sorry about this glitch. The original quote was Estron's, not yours. Don't know what happened there.

While we are on things I don't understand,
What in the shit is there rational for saying "we should be favored or the line should be close to a pick em"???
I mean if they come out and get smoked by Colorado, Illinois, they aren't going to be considered a pick em when they play Northwestern, much less OSU.

Every year, and I mean every year... hope springs eternal in Little Debbieville. National guys who are sloppy and don't care about the B1G West have to pick somebody to win it....and WI is looking to be down. Who can win it if WI is down? Not Iowa, not Northwestern. Well, Nebraska used to be good, it's probably them. The local media in NE can NOT help themselves and that starts to drive everything else in the region. Last season, these same dillholes were picking Nebraska to win 9 or 10 games. The season before, same. It's like people can't learn with their eye balls. It's like 4 wins last year and 5 the year before are completely gone and suddenly Nebraska's back and already made it. This happens EVERY single season since 2001 and to be honest, people who cover the sport just can't help themselves.

So after rewatching the 2018 Nebraska game I came away a little more cynical about everyone in media and many in the fanbase claiming Nebraska is a 2019 9-10 win team.

Adrian Martinez was a legit star in that game, made some incredible plays, made Stanley look like a lumbering old man.

However Nebraska’s defensive front and to a lesser extent their o-line was dominated. The whole game Iowa’s o-line just was blowing their defense downhill. Recruiting and developing a physical defensive line won’t happen in a year, unless you are Alabama, Clemson or LSU. Sargent and toren young were plowing through the first contact on every play and Iowa didn’t even have a negative play in the first half.

Adrian Martinez will win a couple games by himself this year and if Maurice Washington is magically eligible, they will put up some points. Nebraska will be a 7-5 team, but they are a couple years away from being physical enough on defense to be a top tier big ten team.

...also on a side note, holy hell did nate Stanley miss a lot of open receivers that game. I’m not trying to rain on Stanley, because there is no need to kick that dead horse on his over throws from 2018 but if he can complete a couple more throws in 2019 per game, Iowa could be a 9-3 instead of 7-5/8-4 team.
I didn't re-watch the game but my impressions from watching it live were: Nebraska players were dirty and low level dirtbags in their demeanor.

They were really after Noah Fant. Always running their mouths to him.
Not a good look, bunch of losers talking trash. Do something first. Or better yet, do something, quietly enjoy the victory like someone who has been there or expected the outcome.

I specifically remember number 7 acting like hot shit after he pushed Sargent out of bounds.

Great enthusiasm buddy, but maybe pick a better play than a 15 yard gain to celebrate like that.

Maybe. Parker Hesse did a lot of the unheralded dirty work. He ate up blocks when he played on the inside, held contain and dropped into coverage when he played on the outside. PH really was a jack of all trades type of guy.

I am not saying I agree, but I get their rationale of playing AJE 50% time. Last year he seemed perfectly suited as a" designated pass rusher". This year I want that beast let loose.:)
Agree about Hesse.
Very underrated - but made a lot of big plays.

If AJ would have played 75% of the snaps instead of 50% we would have been in better shape too. The defense left a lot of plays on the field by choosing to only play him half of the time.

One has to wonder though...if he plays more snaps, will he be as fresh? Don't misunderstand...AJ is a special talent, no doubt..but fresh legs don't hurt. Especially when the tackle you're crashing down on has been in on every down.

IMO, having the luxury to usher in AJ the past 2 seasons as they have, have set him up and put him in the place he is coming into this season. That's just my opinion, but based on his #'s and his current draft status, it's really really and I mean really hard for me to argue with how the staff has used him up until this point.

He is already attractive to the NFL, and will be even more attractive if he has a good season this year, and it is documented that he has less hours of wear and tear on his body. Some teams draft with this metric in mind. If he becomes and remains a dominant player in the NFL it will be the best recruiting tool for Iowa.

Like how you’ve still sold out a game when the stadium is half empty.
EVERY TICKET WAS SOLD, PAL. JUST BECAUSE THEY SOLD 10,000 OF THEM TO A SINGLE BOOSTER FOR $100 SO HE COULD DONATE THEM TO A CHARITY (WHO THEN ENDED UP DECIDING NOT TO USE THEM FOR WHATEVER REASON) AND DEDUCT THEIR FACE VALUE FROM HIS TAXES DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT NEBRASKA HAS SOLD OUT 793 STRAIGHT GAMES.
