Revsine tweeting about Hawks

Haven't heard Mike Daniels' name very much. What is his story?

There's a reason why Ferentz and Norm consider Mike Daniels to effectively be a starting DT for them ... the guy is that good.

I don't know why you haven't heard his name before ... he's been our #5 guy on the DL for some while now. He also saw a good bit of game action back in '08 and looked good too.

I am so ready for this season to get started. Standing in the check-out line at the store tonight and this young lady, which is nearly any lady I see anymore, comments on my Hawkeye hat and says she and her husband have tickets for 4 games this year. She gets a big grin on her face and says they are going back for the home opener. Hawk fans are all over the country and they are pumped.

If you've watched any of the footage from practice, namely the DL drills, Daniels sticks out like a sore thumb. That dude's intensity and effort is incredible, and he is legitimately a 5th starting DL. Daniels just exhibits an incredible, incredible motor and effort during drills. (And playing for Kaczenski (sp?), I don't think you have a choice - love that dude!)

You can be a Hawkeye fan without being a fanatic. Most of us on this board are fanatics (including myself). We pay attention to every word that comes out of Fort Kinnick. UrbandaleHawk, I don't mean this in a bad way but if you don't know who Mike Daniels is it's simply because you haven't stayed very well informed. Ferentz has said that he considers Daniels to be more of a 5th starter than a back-up. The dude had 140 lbs in each hand doing dumbell presses in recent pics on hawkeyesports.com. I have a feeling he's going to see some significant time this year being rotated in. Especially during running situations.

In his introduction video he says the main reason he came to Iowa was because of Coach Doyle. I think it's safe to say any player who says that most likely has a high motor and incredible work ethic.

Impothissble...how can you call any of us fanatics?

140 lbs in each hand...I might not be able to lift 140 lbs with both...

Even entering college, Daniel was a weight-room junkie. Really, REALLY strong guy. I love the intensity that he plays with.

My bet is that if it weren't so important for Ballard and Klug to get acclimated to their starting jobs last year ... and if they were caught on the field longer than they were ... we would have seen Daniels in there more.

Now that Ballard and Klug are veterans ... each rep isn't quite as valuable for their development anymore. Now the coaches can focus a bit more on trying to keep them fresh. And that's where Daniels will figure in. He'll be the first guy on the field whenever EITHER DT needs a breather.

You are right. I have a lot more going on in my life than Hawkeye football. So I asked a question. No need to get all "I'm a better fan than you" on me. I looked his stats on Big 10 Network's website, which says he had 10 tackles last year - not exactly a player everyone is going to positively remember. I listen to all the local sports radio shows on my way to work and home from work. I am on this website quite a bit. I also watch the Big 10 Network quite a bit. And although the name Mike Daniels is not completely foreign to me, I stated that I hadn't heard much about him and wouldn't mind some elaboration. Which some people have kindly done.

I'm fully aware not everyone has as much time to spend digging up information on Hawkeye football as some of us do. That was my point. I understand it sounded somewhat condescending but I didn't mean it that way... hence the "I don't mean this in a bad way" comment. Apparently you missed that one. To be perfectly honest with you sometimes I feel quite pathetic when I think about how much time I spend reading about the Hawks. I in no way meant to be an #$$hole so I'm sorry if you took it that way.

Simply put, Daniels has quietly gained a very good reputation from coaches, players, and people close to the team. Plenty of information has been out there about him. It's not surprising to me that you missed it if you don't spend much time doing research (there is certainly a few other players on the d-line being talked about).

This is all you needed to say. The rest was unnecessary
