revis holds out

Darrelle Revis of New York Jets sits out some plays to protest deal - ESPN New York

anybody else sick of these players demanding retarded contracts....he talks about loyalty

wheres his loyalty for his team? he won't play unless he makes so many millions??? come on!!

He does not have a guaranteed contract, he plays a sport with a small window to play, and his career can end at any second. He would be stupid not to try and get every dime he can right now, because the team will get rid of him the second he stops having value to them. Loyalty, for the player and the team, goes as far as the bottom line.

he is top corner you guys are missing my point and strengthens my thoughts of the world just expects to pay these guys stupid amounts of money to do their JOB.

this goes in general for any player to hold out

I agree with him doing this. In other sports, where the contracts are guaranteed, this would not be cool (but it never happens because of the guaranteed $). In the NFL these franchises treat these guys with NO loyalty whatsoever. It happens all the time where a team has a player who plays 10 great years with a team, and he starts to decline ever so slightly, and they cut him June 30 when he is due a $5M "roster bonus" on July 1. Revis should hold out, and take as much as he can get.

By the way, I do think it is crazy that a player makes $1M per game. That is crazy. But if he can do it, good for him.

You sign a contract you play a contract out. Don't **** and moan about it. I don't care if you deserve a better contract. Play out your contract that you signed and said this sounds good to me. yes he is worth more, but he signed the contract. Contracts SHOULD mean something though apparently in most cases these days you can just sign anything and then just be like I didn't mean that, I want this, and it happens. Quit crying and play. You'll get paid when your contract is up.

Exactly why should a player have to do this? Especially when teams don't allow players to finish their contracts they sign them to? Heck teams cut players all the time without it hurting them and not living up to their side of the contract why in the H should players have to do it?

I think the teams should be held to the same standard. Not arguing that. But if he's worried about guaranteed money he should've got that in his contract the first time.

glad some ppl agree or see past the dollar signs at contracts

players have an off season and then they have a magical season and expect their contract to be changed...miles austin is a good example of a guy who is like well guess there is nothing i can do about it i just want to win championships!

Tell this to his former teammate Thomas Jones. Had a great season, then cut this year right before he could get his $3 million roster bonus. NFL teams will cut players in a second if they can save money, Revis needs to look out for himself and get paid.

Guess he got an opportunity to explore his options then huh.

I guess making $1 million a year to play football just isn't enough to get by on. I don't care if he can only play for 10 years. Thats $10 million. It would take many people over 100 years to earn that much. Athletes get paid way way to much to play a game, and those that complain about not making enough drive me crazy.

If they didn't cost so much, then tickets wouldn't cost as much either

If so many people wouldn't buy the tickets @ $100/pop, they wouldn't cost so much either...See how dumb that sounds?

Again, the difference between the NFL & the other major sports is the guaranteed money. IF, your money is guaranteed by contract (see all long-term Cubs' signings over the past two decades) -- then yes, you are a jerk for holding out & not finishing out your contract.

But, in the NFL, the team doesn't have to finish your contract if you get injured or your ability starts to slide. So, I ask you, why should a player be bound by a contract the team isn't bound to?

The Jets should pay the man. That's just the way it's done in the NFL.

Is this a joke, or does this guy seriously not understand how capitalism works?

Give me a single example of a team "not living up to their side of the contract" without being sued and losing.

The contracts are not guaranteed, and teams are free to cut players and do many other things that may seem "unfair" to you, within the parameters of the contract.

So, let me get this straight. It is fine if two parties (the team and the player), agree to a contract.

However, in your view, it is perfectly ethical for the team, after agreeing to a duration and amount, to fail to uphold the contract at will, but it unethical for a player to refuse to meet his end of the contract?

Explain and show your work.

Fail. Read my post carefully. Contracts must be honored. I'm waiting for an example of a team that didn't honor a contract (and wasn't sued successfully for breach).
