Report: Hoiberg could replace Thibodeau as Bulls head coach

I don't see Fred leaving Ames. The only reason I could see him leaving is if he just hates recruiting as much as I think he does. I mean the guy doesn't even go after HS kids at all, he only targets a top 20 type guy, and then relies on transfers for the rest of the roster. He got Custer to commit on Nov. 2012, and has not inked a HS kid since (I don't count a Greek club player who never played in the States).

I don't think Fred is interested in taking the months, and months to earn a HS kids trust to sign them, unless they are a top 20 kids (Dialo, Vaughn). Otherwise he can spend a couple weeks working a transfer and they have to make a decision quick. Fred doesn't have to sink a bunch of time stoking a HS ego for months or a year. Plus it is working for him, why spend all that effort getting HS kids when he has been so successful with transfers?

That's just it the original plan was to jumpstart the program with transfers and then take a more "traditional" approach. It went so much better than he expected that now he is like eff it why even bother.

He uses transfers to fill in whatever gaps he might have in his roster. The only transfers he had in his rotation this year were McKay and Dejean-Jones, and BDJ wasn't even starting by the end of the year. Nearly every one of his best players are traditionally recruited players. As for this strategy being good for winning conference titles/conference tourney titles, but not for getting out of the first round? This is the first year he's failed to get out of the first round, and they're coming off of a Sweet 16 season a year ago. Upsets happen, and it's not an indictment on the character/chemistry of the players.

People can hate ISU all they want, but don't ignore the facts and just make up your own to do it. That's a little-brother-esque move.

Isn't Hogue a transfer? They are more reliant on transfers than most. Of all the posts in this thread I am not sure why you chose mine to make your point. Never said anything about the players he was bringing in having character/chemistry issues. I think it was smart of FH to bring NBA concepts in terms of ball movement and spacing to the collegiate game. He is one of best in the country at taking advantage of mismatches.

All that being said i realize you are an Iowa guy, but you are coming off as a insecure, defensive ISU fan who feels that they need to justify what FH is doing.

He hasn't gotten a verbal commitment from a HS kid since Nov. 2012. Since then he has found the time to get the following transfers: McKay, Cooke, Williams, and Burton. It is what it is TM, he just doesn't really care to pursue HS kids unless they are Top 20 kids (Diallo or Vaughn).

You sound like ForeverIowan in that he claimed the "stud" players are 4 year kids. That simply isn't the case. Without Transfers Da Mayor's tenure would look much different. No way ISU makes the NCAA's without transfers in Year 2 (White, Scotty C, Allen), Year 3 (Babb, Lucious, McGee, and Clyburn), and how good would they have been Year 4 without (Kane and Hogue), and in Year 5 without (Hogue, BDJ, and McKay)?

Nobody is hating on Fred for what he has done, heck I wish we would have made the NCAA's faster. Yet lets not pretend that he is building this thing with 4 year players, he simply isn't, and he seems to rely even MORE on Transfers now. He has signed less HS kids in the last 2 recruiting classes ('14 & '15) than he did in ('12 & '13). I'd also be willing to bet Fred brings in 2 more transfers to fill out the '15 recruiting class (1 more if he gets Diallo).

Anybody that thinks Hoiberg is leaving Ames is either trolling or simply delusional.

It's not happening, folks. He can coach there the next 20 years if he so desires. His popularity is at an all time high there, and he has an AD who is 100% behind him. Hoiberg is a class act. Simply put, he is a perfect fit for Iowa State.

I don't like the Cyclone fans, but I respect Hoiberg and what he has done there.

However much money the Hoiberg's have, and I think it would be a lot, he is due to make 30+ million more dollars in 10 years. If he has 20 million now after playing in the nba and the front office plus 5-8 million from ISU then he could have north of 40 -50 million bucks not counting growth from investments.

With his health condition he may just want to retire from coaching by 2025 and do some other things while taking time and care of his family.

I see him retiring within 10 or so years.
