Everyone needs to chill. We are in a rebuilding year yet. Just cause we signed the #19 recruiting class in the nation does not make us automatically good this year. We have good potential thats all. Everyone is so worked up about this recruiting class when there not even on campus yet. Lets take this game by game maybe get an upset or two and get to that point where were not rebuilding were reloading. GO HAWKS!!! Were in good hands with Fran he cant rebuild a team in a night give him another year or two!

I don't get the sense that many people are too upset, panicking or aren't following that mindset myself.

Let's also temper the expectations a little for this #19 recruiting class. Its one year of talent and its rated # 19. Many teams have a top 25 recruiting class over a four year period. Also, the class is rated that highly, in large part, because of volume--it has 5 members.

It doesn't even make us good next year or the year after. Lickliter really screwed the basketball program up bad. It's going to be a slow rebuilding project. It could easily be two or three years before Iowa is legitimately good.

All this thread is saying is, "we're just Iowa...we can't rebuild that fast" Well I don't settle for mediocrity.

Mediocrity? Have you seen where the basketball program has been over the past five years? Mediocrity should be welcomed at this point. Besides, it would take any program (that doesn't cheat) multiple years to rise from the dumps that Iowa has been in the past five years. IMO Fran should be given three more years after this one to give him a chance to develop the 2012 class and hopefully build a consistent winning program at Iowa.

Even with a good recruiting class, Iowa is still 2 or 3 years out of making a difference in the BIG. And that is if we can continue with good recruits.

I am not freaking out, but it has been disappointing to see regression, not progression in so many facets of the program so far. This year is really about next year, as we don't have the horses to compete with middle of the pack + teams. Help is on the way, but it would have been nice to get 1-2 guys in (juco preferrably) who could hlep us out this season. I know the effort was made with Hubbard and that didn't work, but I don't know how beneficial it is for these guys to get thrashed all year (again). A Cole type player down low alone would be a big help, as we are pretty soft on the boards, which causes a variety of other problems.

This....we could have cougill....

Totally agree with the OP. We could play reasonably well in all 18 Big Ten games and go 5-13. If we don't play well in all of them...oi.

Either way, it's fun to watch a team that steals and cuts to the hoop. Even Alford's better teams rarely looked 'pretty.' If you watch close, you can see the change happening. Wins will be hard to come by with this group, and there will be some UGLY losses. But, White has good raw moves and instincts, Oglesby is a deadeye shooter unlike any we've had for awhile, and hopefully Mel will return to form once the excess weight is gone. Also, I feel like Marble's ball-handling has improved...a lot (now to improve his shot).

The foundation is being built.
