Refs were from what conference?

Not sure what game u were watching but how do we play bad defense but have multiple guys foul out. Was the game played so differently on our end that every time they went to the hoop it was a foul but going the other way it was not until the last 2 minutes of the game.

One PAC 12 and the others were mountain west.

Zero consistency and game was decided at the free throw line..., 32-15.

I thought fouls that were called were fouls, but it was very very inconsistent. Very ticky tack underneath, but there was mugging allowed. And I have yet to figure out how hand checking and bumping are considered good defense.

Ok, 2 calls that I have a beef with are the block by Marble on Singler (I think), I couldn't tell if Marble was moving but the kid was way out of control and lowered his shoulder. could go either way, but then to call the charge on McCabe on the other end about 20 seconds later on a less obvious call IMO, was sad.

This is where B1G teams get screwed when they go out of conference. The physical mugging that is allowed underneath the basket in conference games gets called elsewhere. Better teams adapt (see Ohio State and Michigan State). Others don't (see Iowa).

I thought the shoulder Ashaolu laid into Aaron on the pick in the second half should have been a foul but it wasn't. Clearly some movement there.

We all know Iowa would be undefeated & a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament if it weren't for the refs.

Sounds like a bunch of wimps complaining about their ex-wives. Everybody on this board has a friend like this. You eventually don't want to have anything to do with him because all he does is whine & cry about his ex-wife. It is pathetic.

Oregon was physically stronger and tougher. its not Oregon's fault Iowa gives up position so easily

Except Iowa gets called for a ton of ticky tack crap, while Oregon got to push, shove, hold guys, give for-arm shivers on screens, it was just a joke job of reffing period.

The refs were from Nike. Phil Knight is making sure Oregon wins the NIT.

Gatens getting held.
Uneven calling inside.
Oregon getting away with hacks.

Just finished watching the game on DVR and was rewinding on all of the fouls.

The only specific calls that I thought were a little questionable were a few balls out of bounds given to the Hawks after I thought we touched it last. Oregon got away with a lot of bumping up the floor, but Iowa never really adjusted to do the same. Most fouls on Iowa underneath, McCabe and Basabe were out of position and didn't have their arms up.

As others have said, I thought this game was within the scope of reasonable officiating. Not perfect, but no game is. Some crews allow more contact out front, and Iowa doesn't fare well in those games.

The officiating didn't cause the Hawks to lose, their terrible defense did. That being said the refs were terrible. Plenty of times Hawkeye players went up for shots and got hammered and there were no calls and Oregon got the call every time there was contact. Just look at the difference in fouls. Iowa had a ton and Oregon didn't have many. You can't really argue otherwise. If Iowa would of moved their feet and kept perimeter players in front of them they could of overcome the bad officiating.

I was unable to watch game. Only able to listen to second half with Dolph and Bobby. Dolph only mentioned Gatens getting mugged, held etc. which he said has happend all year, but didn't mention anything else egregious.

Just curious, can you post some of these bad/no calls?

Congratulations Fran and Hawks on an exciting year. Things are definitely looking up.

This is the series that really bothered me too. If you are going to call one a block call the other a block. Very similar plays, so make the same call.

I do understand not wanting to make excuses but I do not understand how officiating that is not consistent for both teams has no bearing on the game? The game was decided by 11 points and the other team had 15 more made free throws. All other stat lines were even.

How many times this season did we have two players foul out in the same game?

A charge was whistled against us on one end and then the identical play on the other is a block. Every time we challenged a shot inside it was a foul but on the other end contacted was permitted. Oregon reached the double bonus in both halves while we did not in either. Was the play on both sides that different? The one break we got on an out of bounds call was given back to Oregon on the next possession with a moving screen call.... Give me a break.

Like others I am ok with bad as long as it's consistent. No way this was a consistently called game. If it had been we would have won by 10.

this is just stupid. all other stats were not the same. they shot ten point higher than is from the field. the ft disprecpensy was a result of terrible defense not the officials. anyone who watched that game and thought we deserved to win by ten is flat out herbied.

we played well and shot well on offense but we also didnt take it to the hoop as much as we have all year (unless it was a fastbreak). we settled for the 3 and the midrange jumper. you dont get as many fouls that way. oregon didnt go for the midrange. they shot 3s and took it to the hoop. and our bigs rotate poorly so they are out of position (ie white getting blown by on the wing and basabe and mccabe making bad fouls because they dont move their feet). this was about as good of a shooting performance as 2 teams can have but the more aggressive team got more fts and that ended up being the difference. bc settled for 12 ft shots when usually he goes to the basket. marble was enamored with the 3 because it was falling. and those 2 are the most consistent at getting to the hole for pts (whether their own, a foul or an assist).

were call missed? yes.
did the refs give the game to oregon with the calls? no. oregon took the game by getting fouled and making fts. see ho the refs are calling and adapt to force the situation.

There are always missed calls in basketball. Keep in mind that of all the major sports, it is probably the most difficult to officiate, especially for the 50+ YO men that are trying to keep up with super-athletic teens and early-20's guys. The only game all season where I was honestly upset with the officiating was UNI.

Do i think they intentionally gave Oregon almost 20 more FT than Iowa, prob not, but the amount of pushing and shoving and hacking they allowed Oregon to do compared to the tickey tack crap they called on Iowa was a joke.
