Not that its probably gonna matter in the end, but does anyone else think that these refs are are calling a terrible game tonight. MSU is getting every call possible.

YEP!!!!!!

It started right when MSU was going on their big run in the 1st half. They've called the most ticky tac fouls on Iowa and nothing on MSU. Iowa has been fouled at least a dozen times on rebounds...........nothing.

Hard to get the call in the Izzone.

Would be nice to get CHA rockin' again so we could get some ref manlove.

I hate the way B10 lets games get officiated... Too much home court advantage, calls always go to the stronger more physical player (not consistent with the rules), and the games get way to rough. Watch the middle of the pack big ten teams that try to push and shove their way through tourneys at the end of the season! They'll be the ones going home after the first round....

Everyone seems to get home cookin' in basketball...the only call that pi$$ed me off was the bullcrap goal tending call.

I'm sure MSU gets the calls so the refs don't have to hear Izzo whine over there from the pine. You see that guy throughout the game? Terrible. Good coach, but c'mon, shut it now and then and stop acting like a baby.

Overall, I didn't think the officiating was too bad.
The goaltending call was awful, but it would have been MSU's ball back on that block out of bounds, wouldn't it have?

Cully got away with a block on that Lucas drive.
MSU got away with a lot of over-the-backs and a lot of illegal screens.
Gatens got away with some of his elbows and shoulders (did get call for one).
Cully got laid out on that block, no call.

There were some bad calls, but I've seen far worse and none cost Iowa the game tonight.

The call on Brommer in the first half as he was falling was a bad call. It would have been a TO on MSU and it came right during their big run at the end of the first half!

I absolutely HATE the way Izzo can control the refs with his complaining and yelling. No coach should be able to intimidate like that. I think back to the Iowa State game in the tourney a few years ago and Izzo's whining and incessant complaining actually changed the outcome of that game. I was ******, and I don't like ISU!

Poor Clone fans...I think they had the best team in the country that year...not so sure Izzo wouldn't agree...or at least give them a close 2nd.

Was Brommer falling or did he reach down ever so slightly and trip the MSU player starting a fast break? Hard to tell from the replay. I thought he did reach for the foot. But if he had done that I'm sure it would have been more than a PF (such as flagrant).

I never really saw a reply of it. But in real time, it looked like there was no one within 10 feet of the guy. I truely believe that he tripped over himself. If Payne would've fallen like that, I'm sure there would've been a no call.

I wonder if Iowa had won the game if anyone here would have mentioned anything about the refs?

Jon should put a permanent thread at the top of the board and just change the name of the team and the coaches name after every game.

Do they make some bad calls for both teams..sure. Do they overall call good games...yes. Is a team like MSU going to get a few calls at home...probably, just like Duke, NC, and some other teams, probably even Iowa (remember Penn St). Just the nature of the game.

Best thing you can do is just ignore the refs...not hard to do...and enjoy the game.

NewMex- You stated in a previous post that you didn't watch ANY of the game until the last few minutes. There were some bad calls last night. If MSU weren't on a run, Lick should have gotten T'd up for the BS goal tending call.

The issue with basketball officiating is it's subjective, much moreover than football or baseball. Yes, in baseball, the strikezone is variable for some ump, but overall pretty white/black way to officiate. In football, it's more subjective than baseball, holding calls come and go, and interference calls are pretty subjective. However 9 times out of 10 you can tell if a ref botched a call.

In basketball, it so much more subjective. Hand-checking, over the back, palming, 3 secs in the lane, blocking vs charging, reaching in, elbowing/nudging, body control vs position, etc... they are all subjective. That's why complaining about college basketball refs is so easy, yet so applicable. If a player steps out of bounds, goes over and back, etc... those are no brainers, but most of the calls in a BB game are subjective and that will bring the critics out every single time.

I started this thread in the middle of the 2nd half when we were still down about 14. After that though, I'll admit that the refs were a lot fairer and I would say Iowa got more calls that MSU. That 1st half was bad though.
