Ref grabs wrestlers throat!!

Snap judgments being made here. You can't see what happened. It may have been justifiable. If he didn't intend to inflict harm and did so in a calm manner I, personally, have no problems. If he needed to pull the aggressive wrestler off of the other it may have been justifiable. The wrestler was not harmed. Were you ever drug by your ears by your father?

when the wrestler asked to get his hands off his throat thats when it becomes a problem to me...even if he punched the other wrestlers still no need to grab him by the throat in my eyes

i would like to see this happen in a basketball game and see what happens

Here is a quote from the michigan board that says what occured prior to the video. "The Tecumseh kid and his opponent were at the edge of the mat and
Schifter blew the whistle. The Tec kid pushed off of the other kid as
they got up,,,and the other kid grabbed his leg. The Tec kid stepped
back toward the kid...Schifter stepped in between and the Tec Kid
started to back away - at that point the video begins. The Tec kids dad
arrived at the end of the match and managed to control himself with the
assistance of Tec fans."

im not saying that its that big of deal because he didn't seem to be harmed in any way but im just saying he will lose his job in todays world. im just surprised he didnt put his hand on his chest or something..

It sounds like the ref is saying "Don't misbehave on my mat". The wrestler seems more restrained than the ref so I am guessing the ref is gonzo after putting a death grip on the grappler.

I don't know that I have a huge issue with it. First of all we don't have video of the entire situation so we don't know everything that went on. Secondly there are times in which athletes need to be physically restrained and it's usually not a cut and dried situation.

I officiate HS basketball at the varsity level and have had a couple of situations with required me to physically restrain a player. One memorable situation a player was fouled hard by another player. It was a clean foul as the offending player was clearly trying to block the shot but there was a ton of body contact and the offensive player took the brunt of it.

The player that was fouled immediately got up and put both hands in the other kids chest and pushed. I immediately got between the two and firmly placed one hand on the middle of his back and the second high on his chest and escorted him to his bench.

Depending on the angle and how much of that was on video it could have easily looked like my hands were at or near his throat which was not the case nor my intent.

I think the video we do have is clear that he wasn't choking or applying pressure to the kids throat he was simply removing him from the source of the confrontation. The kid shouting "please take your hands off my throat" sounds much more like a kid being a smart *** realizing that the official is in a tough situation.

My opinion is 30 years of service as a HS wrestling referee clearly overshadow this transgression (if you even view this as a transgression).

^^This^^ He wasn't harming the kid, just restraining him and pushing him away. His hands should have been on the chest, but he was in no way trying to injure the kid. How long were his hands there anyhow? A second and a half. It is much longer in super slow-mo than real time. He'll be fired though.
