Redirects

I had to switch mobile browsers just for this website. Someone previously suggested a browser called "Brave" and it works wonders. The Ads in general just suck on this site. Even the ones that aren't redirecting cause browsing issues.

Had one on my pc this week that first wanted my user / pass (I gladly told them those- "bite me" "assholes"), then urged me to call a # so that "Microsoft Super Technicians" could help sort it all out.

I've done the same thing from my laptop ---- running OpenSuse Linux. It's kind of funny to talk to them and listen to them stutter and stammer along wondering how to deal with Linux.

So you called the number? I've never done that- seems like you'd be begging for lots of spam calls that way.

How many seconds did it take before somebody asked for your credit card / ssn ?

Soon after they said their software had reported to them that it found something like 20 viruses in my Windows folder......

I use Brave which a poster suggested and it has eliminated all of that crap.

On the down side it doesn't play vids or show tweets.

Back on topic. I’ve reported this in the past on the site board and got no response. I don’t know if the site is compromised or if these are “ads” they allow intentionally. My gut says the latter.

I still get them regularly and I would prefer not to download special apps to work around something that HN should be fixing on their end.

I haven't seen the fake virus and redirects in years.

Been using either Adblock Plus or Ublock Origin as an add on. Have used Adblock Plus for the last 8 years or so, on all sorts of platforms. Started switching to Ublock Origin because the program is a bit more selective about what is blocks and has a lighter memory footprint.(Note: You will have to use the unblock function for various advertiser supported websites. It isn't difficult.)

Bit Defender Free is a good Antivirus for Windows 7, 8.1 or 10
Or you can run on the native Windows Defender for Win 8 and above PS's.
AVG free still works on old slow Vista and XP machines, 32 bit or 64 bit. You can strip out all the extras.

It's just on my phone that I seeing them. Haven't seen them since downloading Firefox focus.

I finally installed the Brave browser as previously suggested. HO-LI-CHIT what a huge difference in web browsing experience. The pages load much faster. My phone is no longer laggy when having multiple tabs open. Scrolling is now smooth and immediate when it was jittery and inconsistent before.
