Redirect to Ad in new tab when clicking "What's New?"

Has anyone else sometimes been in the forums and clicked on the "What's New?" menu, and been routed to a new tab, to something completely unrelated to this site? Stuff like Publix grocers, etc?

When this happens, it seems the only way to get back to the forum list is to find a way back to the HN home page and then navigate back to the forums again.

It's pretty annoying to say the least since it's preventing me from getting back to the forums easily, and am not sure if this is the intended behavior..

I haven't figured out the pattern for when this happens.. Sometimes it happens, but usually it does not.

Yes I have had this happen, but like you seems sporadic and I too have not figured out the pattern. I have not had it happen lately however.
