Red Sox or Rays?

I agree that TB has the edge in the AL, especially since Lester will be pitching on 3 days rest tomorrow and should it go to a 1-game playoff, the Sox will throw either Wakefield (probably) or Lackey on 3 days rest. The rain out last Friday really hurt Boston's pitching.

In the NL, I would say the slight edge is with the Braves since they are up 1 game anyway. I think the Phillies will throw a no-name tomorrow in order to rest their starters for the playoffs, and Houston would love nothing more than to ruin St. Louis's playoff chances.

Rays. They are playing the Yankees and they are resting players for the playoffs, plus the Red Sox's are folding like a cheap suit.

The Rays b/c the Yanks aren't playing anyone and don't care. They have Detroit on their mind, not tampa

As a Yanks fan, it's weird to hope the Sox get it. But they're playing so terrible right now that it feels like them getting in basically eliminates one contender from the title. Definitely been a weird week.

as a yanks fan, you always wish for the sox to sit this one out.

rays don't have the hitting from bottom to top to beat NY in the playoffs.

The playoffs are all about pitching. That's why the Yankees struggled so much from '05-'07, and the Phillies are thought of as the prohibitive favorite in the NL this year. The Rays staff is much, much better than Boston's; I would say it is enough better to negate any advantage the Sox' lineup has over TB's.

Texeira just hit a GS HR - Yanks up 5-0.

Don't discount the Yanks pitching, either.

Well the Rays are getting their azzez handed to them by the Yanks and the Sox are up by 1 over the Orioles.

It looks like the Braves & Cardinals may be heading to a 1 game playoff.

What a ridiculous ending to the season. I thought it was pretty funny that papelbon blows the save, and right when they switch over to the Rays game, Longoria walks it off..Longo Gonego
