recruits will come once they see a few games

As a former student, I think the inconvenience of Carver is a huge factor in student attendance at games. This coupled with poor play is what doomed us the last few years. People would rather be doing things downtown or even studying than spend an hour on a bus full of people complaining about waiting on the bus. I went to all of the games that I was able to and it was almost more frustrating than watching the team play.

This is beyond ridiculous.

When I was a student, me and my friends walked to every game. You do realize that it is on campus right?

Christ, what is it, a mile and a half from downtown? No wonder we're all so fat.

A mile and a half can be deadly when its 0 degrees on a windy February night haha. But yeah I always walked to the games when I was a student. You don't mind the cold or the walk when the team is good. You do when you have to watch Lickliter basketball though.

If the style of play is all it takes that is great news or both instate programs. It ain't that easy though.

Deadly if you're walking around naked. Last time I checked, 3/4 of the student body is sponsored by NorthFace anyhow.

I went to every game as well. The ones who did not attend use this as an excuse. I would support Hawkeye basketball win or lose so to me that wasn't the problem. But when you live in Mayflower (largest dorm), walking to Carver in below freezing weather is not something that appeals to many.

I agree if we were good more people would find a way to get there, but it shouldn't matter in conference play. If the students had a more efficient way to get to the games, they would probably go.

I agree. Even if Lickliter had won 20+ games per year, he'd have had more trouble recruiting players than if he had a more uptempo system. Players don't want to hold the ball for 30 seconds on offense, then throw up a three-pointer.
Throw up is what comes to my mind concerning the Lick years

Oh man... followed by the "we may have been beaten by 20+, but we limited the other teams possessions. Statistically we did really well, and I believe the players are buying into my system". I really hated that attitude... stats are stats, but one stat is so much more important than the others... winning!
NOTE: Butler did fine before him and better after he left. I think he was getting credit for something he had nothing to do with.
