Serious question: does this rule (or a separate rule) apply to visiting a recruit/commit at their school?
No. I believe the NCAA put limits on in home visits to give families some peace and quit. Keeps coaches from stopping by a recruits home twice a day and 3 times on Sunday. There are dead periods when a coach cannot have any contact with a recruit but it does not deny a coach the ability to sit in the stands and watch a kid play. If you recall, Urban Meyer go. Into trouble for "bumping into" a Wisconsin recruit during a dead period. Bret Bielema turned him in for it. It's one of the scams coaches use to sidestep the dead period rules. Urban Meyer tells the high school coach that he will be at the game, the high school coach asks him to come down after the game, Urban says yes, comes down when the players are shaking hands and "oops, excuse me, Mr 5* prospect. I didnt mean to bump into you here".
