Recruiting gut feeling

Hey homer, with all of this stuff going on at tOSU, will we be able to capitalize and sneak an extra 2 or 3 from Ohio? I know we normally can nab a few that they didn't offer but now are we going to get a few extra?

I hope so, but you never know. Until the NCAA comes down and penalizes tOSU ... kids will continue to want to go there.

Furthermore, as fufred rightly stated some while ago ... Tress has a history of looking after the interests of his players, even if what they're doing isn't kosher to the NCAA. While we may not like that ... players and their parents like the fact that Tress has their backs.

Anyhow, if the NCAA comes down on tOSU like they did on USC ... that could end up being pretty significant. USC gets docked 10 'ships per year for 3 years. Down 30 ships is pretty significant. If tOSU gets hit similarly ... then that could definitely open up opportunity for other programs.

However, folks should note that Michigan and Michigan State have been really quick to "poach" in Ohio in recent years. Furthermore, Notre Dame has a pretty good history of recruiting the Cinci area. Also, I'd look for Tennessee to try to continue to hit Ohio too.

In other words, competition will be pretty stiff ... because Iowa won't be the only program looking to try to "steal" a few guys out of Ohio.

Iowa is not going to be able to "steal" Ohio guys as I see it. Rather, they may have more guys to choose from who OSU can't fit due to scholarship reductions. Not really stealing, but still taking advantage.

Given the fact that MSU and Michigan will be hitting Ohio in full-force trying to continue to poach the tOSU recruits they can ... that further supports my vantage that the Hawks are making a pretty good move of hitting Michigan a bit harder than usual.

Continued winning along with a bit more of a presence of "urban" kids ... and then Iowa will have a better chance of shaking the stigma that some of the highly-touted recruits out of big cities might have.

That is part of how Zook was able to "shake up" some of the recruiting over in Champaign. Urbana-Champaign is arguably even more "rural" than Coralville-Iowa City ... and yet after luring in a bunch of city kids ... he was able then to have better luck pulling in "the bigger fish" afterwards.

Torrey Chambell will surprise everyone. I saw him play last year while in S. Florida and his speed is awesome. He has such a burst and is very intelligent. He played on the offensive side of the ball as well last year and was used mainly as a decoy. When he was the ball carrier he picked his holes well and put down some serious blocks.
