Recruiting Grand Finale

FWIW from Michigan blog (dated 12/9)...........

"The above and news that Michigan might not have room for one of the four very good WR prospects they're pursuing means we can shelve Hawkins-to-safety talk for the time being. Wiltfong told the ND 247 site that Michigan had removed itself from pursuit of 4* IA WR Oliver Martin because they were more or less full at wide receiver, which is a very good sign for the three names other than Martin currently on the board."

Maybe more IA vs ND now?

Also being reported that Martin will be back in town this weekend at South Bend to attend the ND football awards banquet.

This is great news, and echo's some other information out there as well. I think it is down to Iowa and ND at this point. I'm liking our chances again.

Guess we'll find out soon. I'm 50/50 on him as a Hawk at this point. Can't rule MI entirely out if one of those 3 other receivers falls out. Harbaugh will be back in pursuit.

We're riding on the edge with most of the remaining higher targets which to me is a concern especially when we've heard little about quality names surfacing as part of Plan B and the clock ticking......and now it sounds like Lovett is going to take addl visits. If Plan B is exercised I think it will look MAC-like.

That is the risk of riding out these better commits to signing day. Iowa's plan B isn't like Michigan's plan B. We really can only flip MAC level players in the last month, Michigan goes after Iowa level players to flip in the last month.

That is the risk/reward of going after a Noah Fant/Alric Jackson/Matt Forniak (Sp?). Last year we got two of them, and missed one.

The positive is that the staff over the years has a pretty good hit % on the kids they do flip from MAC schools or find late. Obviously some don't hit, but as far as late commits go, the hit % from this staff has to be some of the best in P5 football. I don't think I have to list all the late hits in recruiting to prove that point, there have been a ton.

I heard from a Michigan reporter last night that the Wolverines are out on Martin. They expect commitments from Tarik Black and Donovan Peoples-Jones within the next week or so. As far as I know, the Michigan coaches did not visit Martin during the recent open period.

I like Iowa's chances a lot now. With Kelly's people openly admitting he's looking around I wouldn't want to commit to ND at this point.
