Recruiting Grand Finale

Still some big names out there with Thomas Johnston, Scotty Nelson, Kendrick Green and Oliver Martin. I think Green ends up being a Hawk, but to me Johnston is an absolute game changer! He finishes at the point of attack and could come in and contribute to a D that has a ton of potential next season. I know Martin tops the list, but am interested to hear if anyone has any info or insight... I'll hang up and listen... GO HAWKS!

It's kind of frustrating that we've had all of these decommits, but haven't landed a single new commit in forever.

Would love a couple good wrs to go with green and TJ. Maybe one more db too. Still like this class a lot.

Probably because no one wants to commit until they are 100% sure. Which means we will have everyone decide on signing day. I'm not sure how that is better but whatevs.

Green bumped up to a 4* today... Sounds like the Hawks have a great shot at Johnston and Green, but the Nelson ship may have sailed? Someone on the board was spot on when they said the CIA was running Martin's camp, zero info. From an outside perspective I think him going on as many "unofficial" visits as he did to Iowa this year is a good thing!

Who is saying the Nelson ship might have sailed? I would be very surprised by that

Just an observation from reading different sites and social media, but I could be 100% wrong and I hope I am. There is a lot of information out there on Green, Nelson and Johnston on the paid sites that could shed a little light on how the weekend went and where the Hawks stand with their top remaining targets...

Per my source: BYU stopped in to visit O. Martin over the weekend, although this is a long shot. It'll be tough to pull him away from slumber party Harbaugh, as they're recruiting his sister for swimming as well. Should see an announcement before January.

I think we get Nelson, Thompson and Green but lose Martin.

That would be a nice finish... very much a "small town fireworks" finale. Nelson, Thompson and Green would all be great fits. Martin would be a real tough one to lose, could step in a play early...

Listened to Tom Kakert on a show last evening and he seems to think Iowa has the best chance to land Martin at this point. It's between NDU, Michigan and Iowa. NDU is a mess right now and TK doesn't think Martin is that high on Harb's list for receivers.

FWIW

Hasn't Harbaugh played some serious games with recruits in the past couple years? Like surprise out-of-the-blue scholarship offers being pulled?

Yeah it's been quiet since that flurry of decommits. Hard to read into how it'll play down the stretch but I'm hopeful that come signing day we'll get a handful of those guys. Martin hopefully doesn't feel the weight of the state no him. But man he'd be such a perfect fit here. Could play early and learn from Vandeberg for a year. Those two seem to be pretty comparable players. (not just cause their white) The draw being he can play early and end up being the man for his hometown like Timmy D was. Or he could run off to Michigan to the unknown of being a small fish in a big pond to begin with...

If we can land 3 of 4 I would consider it successful. Sucks losing some of the guys we did, but these guys are all solid targets that will help immensely.

3 of the 4 would be outstanding especially given who the Hawks are competing with... rivals like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota and beating solid programs from the SEC like Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and LSU on the recruiting trail goes a long way!

Agreed, I am actually hoping that the way Wisconsin's secondary was destroyed by PSU nudges Nelson away from them. I worry about Thompson, as Bert is the reason Wisconsin beat Iowa out for many recruits in the past. Martin, I just have to hope/believe he stays home. Finally, if I were Green I'd certainly look at how many linemen Iowa has prepared for the next level.

Could be a lot of positives, I'd be giddy with all four of them.

Another position that Iowa puts into the league and doesn't get enough credit for is Defensive Back... Sanders Defensive P.O.Y., Hyde, Godfrey, Spievey, Considine, Prater, Sash, Fletcher, Bernstine, Pagel, and Bowen were all drafted. In about five months they could potentially add a first rounder to that list!

The guy that should get Hawk fans excited is Johnston, absolute perfect fit at Iowa. I've been to Fayetteville and got an all access tour of the facilities, elite level! Going to be tough, but Hawks have a real good shot!
