Recruiting Congestion

Yes, and the problem with this class' congestion is that the other "interchangeable positions" are also congested. LB-DE-TE are the three positions most of these guys can fit--with the exception of Lattimore and Schulte to DT.

Schulte, Brant Gressel, and Garret Jansen are the type of recruit I wish we would've passed or brought on as preferred walk-ons. Give that scholly to a less congested position--ideally a skill position (WR/Corner). And go get a D1 athlete!

Gressel had a bunch of offers Pitt, Minny, Indiana, WVU, NC State, & Louisville. Jansen was a late signee, as we missed on others. Schulte was identified early and offered early by Iowa, he was no fallback kid, Iowa really likes and wants him. You have to have a lot of DL players, and all those guys fit that mold.

Yep,2.14 sacks per game low? Maybe. Here is why it was 2.14...1..CJ quite often chose to run with the ball because NO ONE WAS OPEN.. 2. CJ threw the ball away before getting clobbered.. 3. CJ had no receiver open, so he dumped the ball to our slow tight ends three yards past the LOS...for a three or four yard gain, or an incomplete pass. ( slow comparing to a wide receiver ) .. 4. IA runs the ball much more than passing. THUS, a 2.14 sack . average. THUS, little down field passing and ability to shred defenses. ( see Stanford for evidence ) Bottom line, CJ needs to stay HEALTHY. That to me says, better, quicker, faster wideouts needed. AND, an offensive line that can pass block, not just run block. I agree the online had injury and inexperience issues but where's the depth and experienced players? IA could have had a 4 or 5 sack average if we didn't have CJ running and being clobbered. Our schedule was so easy, IA should have been way ahead in scoring by half that our twos could gain real game experience against other team's starters. We need, and hopefully now have better receivers and a line that can PASSBLOCK.!!

I would say all of the positions are congested. That's what happens when you're an awesome ******* program!

I get slammed for being negative towards kf. The truth is that I simply state my opinions of what I think should be corrected and how. No one talks about correcting something that's already working, right?

Regarding the OL, we have missed on quite a few top OL targets the past few recruiting cycles. Say what you want, but it is the truth. We all realize that recruiting is the lifeblood of any college football program; so the overall fix is to get more depth at the position and start securing our top targets.

Having said that, if the OL is inconsistent with pass pro and the WR's are average at getting separation, running the ball on 1st and 2nd downs can leave you in obvious 3rd passing situations. You can mitigate this by throwing on 1st downs, throw from running formations, break tendencies. CJ is a qb with a live arm who can fit the ball in tight windows. Use him.

Didnt we get some quality OL this cycle?

A couple 6'5"-6'6", 4.6-4.7 TEs will add a lot to the passing game.

Do you see a move towards a NE Patriot style offense going on?
