I watched 13 games this weekend and in 12 of them a player was ejected. In some games more than 1 ejection. Is this a burgeoning epidemic?????

I was thinking the same thing

I was thinking the same thing, when I was watching the Vols play, and Jalen Reeves Maybin was ejected on a special teams hit, that looked clean, and unavoidable for helmet to helmet contact. Its looking like a record year for ejections. If the NCAA keeps this up, we will be playing flag FB in the coming years! Lol.

The key for defenders is that they have to keep their head up. If you watched the Gopher game, you saw 3 Gophers get ejected but a 4th got flagged for targeting. He did hit the guy helmet to helmet but his head was up so the defender's facemask was leading. They ended up overturned the flag.

TWO Hawkeyes have killed themselves this year because of CTE. Literally. Are you surprised...? And that is just former Hawkeyes.

I just watched this on cable. Very powerful.

Point of emphasis this year.

No doubt. I was watching Alabama vs USC and a Trojan stomped on some Crimson Tide nads after the whistle blew and while the kid was flat on his back. Trojan was ejected. The game was still close at that point. But of course that gave Bama all the motivation it needed to destroy USC.

Somebody explain how the hit on Tori Hunter Jr in the Texas ND game wasn't targeting.

I think the rule is good -- and, yes, keep your head up. I want to play teams at their best and have our best on the field as well. Being proud of winning because you injure the other teams best player is no better than complaining about losing because you lost your best player. Just stay safe and play ball.

Texas did go on to beat Notre Dame. Not sure if they were proud of the Hunter hit. But it was ruled legal.

I know that I was proud of the Hawks for being labeled bullies of the Big Ten. And hope that they reclaim that title. Do others agree with me?

I think it'll be this way all year and I also think that's why our defense looked a little tentative imo.

Probably. What worries me a little is what happened with the Outlaw. The other player changed his trajectory at the last second with a stumble. How is the Outlaw supposed to compensate for that?

The really sad part is the player in question probably wasn't even going to be a factor on the play.:( It was a bummer to see King not get credit for the awesome return.

I think what the powers that be want to see is for the blocker in these cases to just "get in the way," instead of trying to kill the defender. That blind-side kill shot has always been something players love, whether a crack from an outside receiver or a free shot in the open field (e.g. on a PR or KR). Players and fans will just have to get used to the change, and ultimately it will not really impact the spirit of the game too much.

I agree, the miami player starting stumbling at the last instant, way too late for Josey to pull up. The review proved that, yet they still booted him. Don't agree with the call. These guys ( booth officials ) can't make the right call after 2-3 minutes of review, yet expect a kid going a 100 mph to be able to change his trajectory in a nanosecond when the opponent stumbles unexpectedly??!!

We will see this weekend if this last week was a warning or a new normal. I am inclined to think that the number of calls will be reduced each week u til we hit last year's level.

I understand wanting to minimize injuries. My fear is the zero-tolerance crowd will take control and then the game will be one hour of competition and 4 hours of booth reviews.

But if you have two guys the same height with their heads up and they collide . . . their helmets are likely to collide. I hope we don't get to the point where all helmet contact is flagged.
