Receiver production in 2012

Keenan Davis and K-Mart are clear cut starters.

Barring injury and the ability to avoid repeated episodes of the dropsies, I would expect Keenan to be able to produce between a 800-900 yard season with 7-9 TD's.

K-Mart will have a bigger role and I think he could approach 500-600 yards with 4-6 TD's

I think Staggs will become the primary 3rd option and I think he will be an excellent possession receiver capable of a 300-400 yard season and 2-3 TD's.

I also see Shumpert and Jordan Cotton getting some playing time, but I don't expect a lot of production from either guy.

CJ Fed will be a beast and I think he will be targeted a lot - I think he will approach 600 yards and 6+ TD's. I also love the TE depth - Derby and Hamilton are also capable receiving options.

One of the things that OC Davis will bring to the passing game is an increased emphasis on the short passing game that involves the RB's and TE's heavily - I think this will help Vandenberg improve against some blitz packages that are thrown at him.

Since there are so many questions in the running game going into the season, I think the passing game will be relied on more heavily this season.

I like Greg Mabin to come in and contribute right away as a True Fr. Solid speed and size and just very impressive athlete w/ good hands (makes catches away from body).

I think Cotton could be used quite a bit in certain situations. Such as some tunnel screens, if that is in GD's playbook that is.

Staggs had a red shirt on in the spring game so he must be battling a small injury or they think he is going to be important.

I agree with your analysis--Staggs looked pretty solid when the ball was thrown his way last year.

It'll be interesting to see if Bullock gets any work outside, especially if he's beaten out at RB by DJ or one of the freshmen.

For the past few years I have been disappointed in the receiving/TE group. Basically about the only reason why is the amount of dropped passes. I think production will be very good if they can catch.

I think Coach Davis will be better at getting Vberg in some comfortable passing situations early to allow the guys to work in a comfort zone. I am not a statistic expert but it would be interesting to see how the offensive production would have been different if the amount of dropped passes were cut back. I can think of many that were third down and could have been the difference in stalling or extending a drive. If the guys can't catch I think we are in for a very long season. I also look for more looks to the RBs for receptions especially if we are looking at going more no huddle.
