Really disappointed in the shooting

All the money put into the practice facility.
Guys can get in and get a ton of shots in.

For whatever reason, this team is shooting the ball worst than last season.

That is a bit frustrating.

The team's confidence has to be at an all-time low right now. It'll be interesting to see if Fran can bring them out of this slump or not. At least Ogelsby gives me hope for the future. And that nice recruiting class coming in, of course.

Patience is the key word when it comes to this program. Fran took over the program at an unbelievably low point; Lick completely drove the program into the ground and then some. And anybody calling for Fran's head is a complete idiot.

I agree. I am interested to see how Fran adjusts. The team certainly isn't as bad as they have shown these past few games.

I can't believe people are calling for Fran's head either, he's just getting started people, and just pulled in a top 20 recruiting class. I know the results aren't there right now, but they will get there.

Stormin, I asked you this question in another post. I think too many kids are getting too many minutes, and therefore no one is in a flow. Why not get down to a 7 or 8 man rotation? Why is he playing 10 players? I don't get it. Explain....

Really? People want Fran fired? He's got a great class coming in, they're going to suck this year but so what, next years class is what you build around. Five guys who should all be able to contribute right away, only an idiot would think firing him now would be a good idea.

It's pretty simple really. When we play teams with athletes, they get up on us and deny the ball. Since we are not athletic / able to dribble by anybody, we are crippled. Practice facilities don't make guys more athletic. Clemson had quick guys that played ball denial defense and we wilted.

We had wide-open shots that we missed. Very few of our misses were truly contested or desperation looks. The shooting was just brutal and I can't explain why. Maybe its because we have a new practice facility and everybody feels like they should be in there all the time and their legs are tired, idk?

If you go back and watch the 1st half again, we would be winning that ball game if we made our open shots. I'm not talking any shot that was even remotely contested, I'm talking wide open looks from every part of the court. We had good ball movement and decent penetration but nothing was falling.

Then with about 12:00 to go in the half Clemson comes out and starts stroking the 3-ball. We go from being in a tight game to getting blown out on our own court.

Shooting was the problem tonight.

Fran is trying to find the right combination, coupled with the endurance needed to run and press. That's why he is going so deep into his bench. Mr. Davis wasn't afraid to go 12 deep during a game.... hell sometimes he would do line changes.

I saw it differently. Both Marble and Cartwright were able to get into the lane, they couldn't finish, though. A lot of uncontested shots that didn't fall. Iowa wasn't "out-athleticed" (for a lack of better words), they just shot the ball really badly.

I am actually kind of worried...we have all this great young talent coming in....but they are not going to be saviors their first year....might be setting the program up for total failure.

Completely agree.

Ralph Miller pressed full court with a rotation of 6. John Wooden rarely played more than 7 or 8. Yes, Tom Davis played 9 or 10, but the overall talent level was considerably higher, IMO.

I just don't think this team has 10 kids who really should be playing. I'm not going to be specific because it is cruel to the kids, but I think a knowledgeable basketball fans can see the lack of quickness and ball skills with several of the players that Fran inherited.

This project is going to take a lot longer than I thought. Wow, is it tough to be an Iowa BB fan right now. Very depressing.

I agree. An entire team can (obviously) get in a shooting slump but the good news is sometimes just one player getting hot can bring the whole team out of the slump.
If the shots would've been dropping tonight some of the other stats would've looked better and it would've been a closer game. Having said that I think it's going to be a character building season for us fans.

Fran is bringing in his type of players and he will turn the program around.
