Reality check

It was a good win last night, no doubt. This is the best they've looked all year. I also hope Lick gets it done here and we at least make the NIT next year.

However, we've been watching this movie the past 2 1/2 years. We play some good teams tough, then we get a win, fans get optimistic that we're "turning the corner", and then we lose several more games in a row. Sorry, but I need to see more than just a sporadic win to think we've turned the corner. I need to see continued improvement and not just an occasional tease to believe in the Lickliter system and the Hawks.

Next game is at Purdue. Does anyone seriously believe we have a chance to win there? Sure, we might "play'em tough" again but it's still likely going to be another loss. Sure, we might win another game or two but winning 11 games isn't turning a corner, it's only offering a tease.

Again, I love the Hawks and am hoping Lick gets it done but sorry if I'm not rejoicing in another sporadic victory.

yes, i seriously believe we have a chance to win at purdue. i also think it will "likely be another loss," but they are ranked #6 in the country. that should mean that a game at purdue is a "likely loss" for all but five teams.

but i think iowa has a shot to win. i like our current team way better than the team that led purdue at halftime at the end of december (we ultimately lost by 11). the last month has proven that when iowa plays well they can be competitive with anyone in the big ten, home or away. i'm not going to put my life savings on the hawks but i expect to see them play well saturday and be in the game in the last ten minutes. maybe this is the game where they get over the hump and knock someone off. i'd be less surprised to see them win than i would to see them get run off the floor.

I wouldn't say Iowa has turned the corner. We won't know that until middle of next year.

The one thing we can say is that Iowa is playing a lot better right now. That's for sure.

I would agree, Spank. The corner has not been turned. There is work to do and I for one try to think positively. The Hawks have been playing better, but that doesn't mean there will be games were they do not do as well. I prefer to feel good when they win and not to look for holes.
