Realistic Preview of Hawks on Nebby Board

I agree it is a fair assessment.

My favorite line.... "...and the Overpriced Grocery Store trophy were filling a trophy case in Iowa City"

NOTHING on the Nebby board is "realistic" when it comes to opponents. In their eyes, NO team is as good as they are. Ever.

So "Husker Mike" picks Wisconsin over Iowa for the West Division title.

In examining his reasoning for not picking Iowa, he claims that too many question marks in the back 7 on defense is too much. But, of course, there's no mention that Wisky has to replace their ENTIRE front 7 on defense. In the B1G, I'd much rather have question marks in my back 7 than in my front 7.

He also mentions lack of a playmaker in the receiving corp for Iowa. Of course, there's no mention of the fact that Wisconsin lost virtually all of their receiving corp that mattered. In fact, between Abbrederis, Pedersen and White, they lost 156 of 217 receptions.

We return our starting QB and Wisky is breaking in a new one.

And Wisky has to come to Kinnick.

So pardon me while I have a hard time taking seriously someone who apparently hasn't done their homework.

Pretty much what everyone else thinks about this year's team ... I, for one, will be glad the preseason will soon be over and we will see what happens on the field.

I couldn't shake the feeling that that writer was doing everything he could to summon that deity that has plagued the Iowa program for much of the 2000's!

He shall remain nameless here.

The best point he made was about Iowa's lack of injuries in 2013. Iowa was incredibly fortunate last year in that regard. Nebraska was the opposite last year. They had injuries to a couple key players. Ultimately that will determine what kind of year teams like Iowa, Nebraska, & Wisconsin will have.

A couple of key players? Like the returning All B1G QB and an AA OG? Shoot, our OL was a MASH unit of hobbled 1st teamers and inexperienced 2nd teamers, and we were down to our 3rd team QB.

Soft tissue injuries have been hard on NU the past few years. But, it is what it is.

That would be the couple that I was referring to. I know they had a few others that affected players not as high profile as TM. As I said, Nebraska was the opposite of Iowa last year in regard to injuries. And without question it had an impact on Nebraska's season. Same could be said for Northwestern. This year Ohio St is taking their turn already. Sadly, its the nature of the beast.

I know Wisconsin is the highest ranked of the three (Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa), but I see the West as a 2-horse race between Iowa and Nebraska. If Barry or Bert were still coaching the Badgers, it would be a little palatable, with all of the loss to graduation, but you have a head-coach, in Gary Andersen, who is spread offense, and this has been the furthest thing from Wisconsin football, since started picking at the Hayden Fry coaching tree.

It will be interesting to see what Andersen does at Wiscy over the next 2-3 years. Could be quite a transformation on the offensive side but it will take time to get all the pieces in place.

Neb has a playmaker in Abdullah. WI got one in Gordon. Iowa does not yet have one. Gotta work on that.

Hey bob are you from western Iowa? Funny to see the differences in attitude toward Nebraska among Iowa fans. I grew up in Eastern Iowa and never encountered any Nebraska fans...just saw them on TV...I liked them. I have found them to be, on the whole, a pretty reasonable bunch.

That would be nice. Somehow Sparty manages without the Gordon and Abdullah kind of running back. Maybe Iowa can too.

Yeah, you weren't around enough of them.

Yah, the wife's side of the family are Husker fans....brutal 2 years ago when we just had to stop in North Platte, NE, when Iowa had them at home....man, did I get an ear full.....Hell, even my wife's cousin (7 years old at the time) called me when we left and not even on I-80 yet and said that Iowa sucks.....Damn them Huskers......

However, last year, listening to the Husker post game....I sweat to God, someone committed Harry Carey on there......I thought the world was coming to an end....priceless.....

If those relatives give you any grief and claim last year was a fluke, just remind them that since they joined the B1G we have outscored them head-to-head 52-50. Let's hope we add to that total this year.
