RB situation

i know this has been talked about but everyone that rips on coker needs to think about this. in kf era every team he has had (except 1) was based off the 2 rb system. 1 maybe the main guy but there was a clear #2. this year has been an exception not the rule. coker is the only guy on the field because he is the only one they trust doing the things our rb has to. if mccall hadnt been hurt i know we would have a 2 back system again but coker would still be getting close to 75% of the time because he is actually the better back. the only year iowa didnt use a 2 back system was the year everyone got hurt and they pretty much had a no back system with tate chucking it all around. remember even shonn greene had hampton and coker isnt the back greene is so if they had someone they were confident in they would use him. everyone seems to be worried about cokers speed but i keep seeing people ask why he didnt get the ball in the minny game. this seems like split personality to me as one week he isnt fast enough and the next he goes for 250 and he needs the ball more. trust in the personnel decisions. i dont think the coaches are always the best at play calling and adjusting but i have come to the conclusion that they know how to get their best 11 guys for the situation on the field. that they are very good at and then it comes down to playcalling and execution. canzeri will be a great change up to coker someday but remember he has to be able to pick up blitzers otherwise they know he is getting the ball.

they know he is getting the ball.

1. It seemed like "rust" to me.... He was still a bit timid from little or no contact in early practices.

2. Most of the time, yeah. But I question who JVB was throwing it to in the last quarter of the MN game, I realize it was JVB's decison on where to go with it, but I just don't get why White was in there. Oh well.

i agree he was timid. but on the second point remember white was in the slot not the backfield. coker is an ok receiver out of the backfield but im not sure id ever split him out. id say that is the coaches thinking. but by using white they give the illusion of an rb which could get them a favorable personnel match up from the defense if they keep some lb in instead of going to a nickel or dime.

I realize he was in the slot. I also realize the level at which our TE's seem to keep playing...

You can put your trust in one hand and **** in the other. Which one do you think smells worse?

looking at the stats;
969 yards thru 8 games
182 total carries
121 yards per game
22.7 carries a game
5.3 apg

i wouldn't call those monster stats, and the starter should get those amount of carries a game, if not more, granted we do need another back, but it is not to lesson the load;
at this pace he will get 1400 yards with just playing 12 games, not to bad for a soph, also he will be the 2nd leader in rushing in the BT if it stays like it is, as Redd of PSU leads the BT right now; by a very slim margin; Redd has 1006 yards on 195 carries and ranks 7th in the Nation, and Coker at 11th
if it stay the same Vandy will be the leader in passing stats for the BT. as Wilson of Wisc will be gone

unforetunately the site i got those #'s didn't show # of games, i will go to the PSU site to see, and get back to you

PSU has played 9 game and has this weekend off, they finish at home against Nebraska, then finish on the road at OSU and Wisconsin. pretty tough finish, so yeah unless Coker gets hurt he will pass him

over 5 yards a carry...looks pretty good to me
Not if you consider who We have played... The next 4 games will be telling.

the next four games will be telling but 5 yds a carry against any team is solid. because god knows you wouldnt get 5 yds a carry even with this line in front of you. 5 yds a carry only means hand him the ball twice and we have a 1st down no need for 3rd. you are right that isnt good at all (cant find my sarcasm font). stop stipulating things about who he is playing. 250 is good on any team even bad ones and 5 yds per carry is great. will he do that at nebby or against mich and our other games? maybe not but he is a horse and he will get 3.5 to 4 yds a carry on those teams. which last i checked means hand him the ball 3 times and you have a first down. last i checked that is good.

5.9 yds per carry so far in the 1st half gotta say that shows his advancement and i havent seen any other rb. coker is a true feature back.
