Woodbury can't leave the floor, every time he leaves, it seems teams go on a run. I would like to see the margin when he on the floor as to compared when he is off the floor.

Iowa has to go small, White moving to the PF has to happen. I am sorry, but McCabe does nothing unless he can draw a charge or hit a three...he really is doing neither. Basabe needs to split the minutes with Aaron at the 4-spot. White was in space a lot tonight against Barksdale and dominated him.

Iowa played really well in the zone tonight, they communicated and Woodbury in the middle takes up a lot of space and he rebounded well while in it.

Trending up: Clemmons, Ingram, Oglesby
Trending down: Gesell, McCabe, May

Iowa scored its best when they played solid defense, like when they went small and went to the zone.

Basabe is back to being as active as he was as a freshman, he doesn't need to start, Iowa needs that from the bench.

When it comes down to it, the experiment of White at the SF position is just not working...he is putting up numbers offensively, but Iowa needs defense above anything and he has shown to be tough and can handle his own at PF on defense.

The starting lineup cannot score consistently and digging holes every game is not going to equate into success.

The two minutes I saw out of Ingram/Oglesby got me more excited than anything I have seen from May/McCabe in their time at Iowa.

Iowa needs to play more zone, period...they looked good against one of the best 3-pt shooting teams in the country using it tonight...best the looked the whole game.

Oglesby is starting to hit more shots, I would like to see him on the same side of the floor as Woodbury when Woodbury get doubled.

I agree with almost everything you said, but I thought these stood out the most. I have to wonder if Clemmons and Gessel are going to share almost equal minutes this year. Clemmons athletic ability is going to be hard to keep off the floor.

Good post...agree with all of it. Basabe can come off the bench but he needs to play much more than McCabe at this point

I agree with most of the OP's statements except for the "Gesell trending down" part. I've been pimping Clemmons and Ingram both from the beginning, but I still think Gesell is gonna have a great season.

You ride the hot hand. Gesell didn't play well, Sapp did. That might change the next game.

Not jumping ship on the kid, I would like to see he and Clemmons on the floor together a lot more, Gesell plays decent defense and Clemmons played off the ball most of the time in high school, he can play with or without the ball in his hands.

Iowa has to play more zone because they cannot keep up with anybody playing man to man.

They were much, much more aggressive in the zone tonight and it was effective, Iowa can switch it up back and forth to keep opponents off-balance. VT is a very, very good 3-pt shooting team, but they struggled to hit shots when Iowa played zone. I liked the aggression that was showed, rather than the passiveness in man to man, except for Clemmons, he tried to man up Green and got a couple mysterious fouls.

Ingram's drive to the hoop was pretty impressive other then the missed layup part. Looked like he can do it at will.

This. I wa hoping to see a little more of Ingram tonight, if for nothing more than some quickness on D. Gesell has had troubles keeping his man in front of him or getting a hand in their face. Only going to get tougher with guys like Burke, Appling, Craft.

Agreed. Not sure why every year Fran seems to give May way to much time to inevitably play himself out of the lineup.

Ingram hasn't even played enough minuets to get comfortable yet and he still looks allot better than May. Once he gets a few games under his belt he will be that much better.

Also agree that White and Basabe need to get most of the minutes at the 4. White can't play the 3 and McCabe can't play significant minutes against college athletes.

Good post, but IMO are already small and going smaller ensures we get smoked on boards and give up second and third chances. Watching the other big ten teams, Iowa may not win 5 games in conference this season. I hope Olsaeni can contribute at some point and that Meyer and Uthoff bulk up, as the thin and fast profile isn't working too well for us. Indiana putting an absolute beating on UNC. Zeller is the real deal. Amazing what happens when guys can finish at the rim vs. getting their shots swatted.

Iowa needs better players, thats the bottom line. You cannot win games in the Big 10 with players like May and Mccabe playing major minutes. Unfortunately Iowa hasnt recruited well enough to keep those 2 out of the lineup, they need bodies so those 2 still play. Until Iowa starts graduating the Mccabes and May's and replacing their minutes with big time upgrades, this program is going to struggle.

Fran just needs to find the right line-ups. If Ingram can improve then you can play more White at the 4 and less McCabe. This team has the talent. It just needs to get experienced.

Best lineup by the end of the year could be: Clemmons, Gesell, Marble, White and Woody.

If Basabe, May and McCabe are going to give what they did tonight, Iowa will not be near a 'bubble' team. The foundation of this program will be sealed with Gesell, Clemmons, Woodbury and Ingram.

Ogelsby shot the ball well. He has to take more of May's minutes.

Basabe didn't have a bad game.... Not nearly as bad as McCabe.

6 points, 1 rebound. He has to be more active on the boards. I'm not saying he has killed this club like McCabe the past two games, but Basabe hasn't been great either. 42 minutes the past two games....3 rebounds. Run the floor, play defense and rebound. If he does that, Iowa will be in good shape.

Im not sure if its a case of Ingram needing to improve as much as it is a case of early in the season Fran being loyal to his upperclassmen who are the hardest workers on the team in McCabe and May.

Eventually, after they continue to not be able to guard, Fran will be forced to move White back to the four and the 1-3 rotation will consist primarily of Gesell, Marble, Clemons, Ingram and Ogelsby for shooting.

Getting White off the perimeter and getting May and McCabe out of the primary rotation will help both the defense and the offensive scoring droughts.

Agree but it is reasonable to expect that Ingram is a little behind as he arrived in Iowa City late and had to overcome a couple minor injuries.
