Raises for Assistants

How much do you think Brian Ferentz fetches on the open market?
$900,000 is his market price. Offered by the Hawkeyes. Iowa might be the only place offering that money, but it's still the open market price.

I mean I get your sentiment, but it still doesn't change the overall point. There shouldn't be a "cap" on what coaches can make as long as taxes aren't used to pay for them (that's completely ridiculous), and Iowa should pay as much as needed to retain the best coaches it can attract.

I didn't offer any sentiment on it or think there should be a cap. I was just curious what you thought the market was for Brian. Neither here nor there, but I'd guess his market value isn't $900k. From a purely numbers stand point, what would they need to pay him in order to retain him (per your last sentence above)?....i.e. what would another school or team offer him?

Again, I see where you’re going with this, but the market paid BF $900k. You can’t call it “market value” when you’re leaving out part of the market.

So what's the highest offer you think Brian would have fetched outside his current position? If it is not close to $900k, then Iowa overpaid. I'm not suggesting that Kirk shouldn't have given him a raise, or should have docked his pay. But I do think it is interesting to speculate on what his perceived value (and associated salary) is out on the open market (call it the non-Iowa open market).

You and I both know Brian Ferentz being employed as OC is definitely nepotism. No resume whatsoever and horrible results on the job so far. No one here would question that he's overpaid by probably half.

But the point of this thread isn't BF, it's assistants getting paid gobs of money and whether it's appropriate or not. I made my argument for why it's definitely appropriate. Anything else is commun...

Never mind.

Side note...

Hit "reply" when responding to people. That way they get a notification that you're engaging in conversation.

Certain people here (not saying you) purposely don't do that so they can sneak comments in without the other person seeing it.
