R E L A X

Our young student athletes do not settle for 7-5. We have this team on par for a Big Ten championship. We just have to clean some things up.
It's been fifteen years. We're nowhere close to a Big 10 championship and have not been for some time.

I'm guessing Wirfs, Jackson, Gholston, AJ, & Stone are all leave early.

Hankins, ISM, & Smith will probably do the eval thing and see where they stand. Any JR with pro potential will and you never know what they'll hear. It only takes one outside voice to convince them.

Just because you get thrown around a little doesn't mean they can't play in the NFL. Buluga was abused by Michigan's Brandon Graham and Indiana's DE his JR year. Daniels looked foolish against Purdue his JR year. Hooker was beaten last year a few times. It happens. Other teams have good players too.
Geno Stone is not playing in the NFL, sorry. He is a good college player, but he is too slow for an NFL safety. Smith and ISM will neither one be leaving early either, nor will they play on Sundays. Smith has no speed, sure he will get open now and then, and make a fantastic catch here and there, but he won't get open in the NFL. If we have all this NFL talent, the why do we look so bad on offense?

Hardly anyone is leaving early.
Have you watched our team against any resemblance of competition?
We might, MIGHT have a couple of third to fourth rounders at best.
Anyone that can leave early and does is a fool. Only one way to go from here.

amani hooker was a late round guy, he got a $700k signing bonus and a rookie contract paying $500k. That’s good. Leaving early and getting drafted in the 4th or 5th round does pay.

Ok, so they have had some bad games. This year and last.
The difference between Buluga, Hooker, Daniels and them is they all had many, not just a few good games.

AJE, stone, Jackson and wirfs are gone. Those guys will all be drafted and have had mutilple good games. Hell, even gervase is getting paid and he didn’t get drafted, and stone is way more athletic.

iowas track record with DBs tells me stone will be drafted. DBs don’t look flashy on the field besides Josh Jackson and maybe Desmond.

In August few of us thought this team would get past Michigan. Some thought we might get past Penn State because it was at home. It was hoped that Wisconsin would have a bad year. Instead they are back to leading the West.

Most of us think that Iowa will get past Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota. Nebraska, Northwestern are also very winnable. This is still going to be a good year against a tough schedule.

Amani won a few awards didn't he?

And next year we have OSU, PSU and MSU.
What is your point? Next year we can lose to them plus Wisconsin and have a "good year"?

Gervase is a lot more athletic than ever given credit for.

Bad coaching.

I’m just as frustrated as anyone here BUT, we are ON-PAR right now, halfway thru season.....

-Three games vs Mich (revenge game), PSU (top 10), and ISU (their Super Bowl—been preparing for game since last year, conveniently scheduled UNI and bye before playing us. TWO of these on ROAD also.
-Lost FOUR absolute STUDS to NFL EARLY...absolute KILLER for a DEVELOPMENTAL program (we are not OSU)

EVERYTHING is still in front of us. After losing all the talent we lost, plus TOUGH schedule, was hoping for 8-4. Would still accept 7-5. We are ON COURSE people.

FACT: If Iowa had ANY offense whatsoever, they would be undefeated right now and ranked in the Top 10. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Maybe we would look a little more like OSU if we had even a competent offense to go along with the D, but we don't, and we won't, as long as the Ferentz clan is in charge. The lack of an offense costs the Hawks game after game, year after year after year.

Yes, it seems we tend to be an NFL ‘minor league’ system. Do a great job of getting guys to the NFL, but winning games on Saturdays merely an afterthought. Heck where else in the world would NFL teams find a fullback, tight end, or big slow white QB to draft? Us and Wisky?

If you look at things objectively and remove glasses with any black and gold on them:

With a somewhat balanced offense where teams have to prepare for the run and pass, that can consistently score somewhere in the mid to upper 20s (which would rank your scoring offense somewhere in the 45th-80th in the nation):

Iowa would have won the B1G in 2008, 2009, & 2010

They would have won the West in 2016 & 2018.

But as you referred to, Iowa's O disappears against a D with a pulse.

Nobody, before the season started, really expected us to win at Michigan and Wisconsin, and most didn't really expect us to beat Penn State at Kinnick. We gave both Michigan and Penn State all they could handle on one side of the ball and got absolutely handled on the other side of the ball, and lost by one TD to Michigan and 5 points to Penn State. Not really all that shabby. If the O line was up to snuff we could and should have won both contests.....

An 8-4 season if certainly very possible and considering all the talent we lost to the NFL, that should be a satisfactory season.....

Onward and Upward for the Hawks

Of course, we should prepare now for the slaughter at Madison

2009 you're granting them not only a more consistent offense, but one that can maintain that even if the starting qb goes down.

As for the others you're assuming the other teams wouldn't have changed their offensive approach if the Hawks scored more.

Not that I'm arguing the overall point that the offense has been a liability for almost all of KF's teams.

The offense was inconsistent in the 2000's but honestly since KOK was our OC, I'm not sure there's been an Iowa team that even qualifies as even decent offensively. MAYBE 2015? I'd have to see some stats I guess. But since Greg Davis and Brian Ferentz have been our OC's, yikes.

At least KOK had a few offenses that were pretty good. 2001-02, 2008 for sure. Even 2005 was okay IIRC. Or 2010 before we had some OL injuries.

The real question is why do we have so many players in the NFL but have an average college program in terms of W/L? A lot of it has to be adjusting to in game scenarios, x's and o's and the willingness to change things when they aren't working.
